Wow... So Carmax offered more than the dealership...

Well I was bored.... Ok extremely bored... And decided to get a trade-in value of my IS-F. I went to Carmax earlier in the day and then a Ford dealership in a rather affluent town, (they also own a Lexus dealership next door)... Carmax ended up offering $1500 more than the Lexus dealership.

Carmax offered $38,000 for a 2008 USB with 25k miles and the dealership offered 36,500...

So I also took it to a local Lexus dealership, and he told me the market is dead for IS-F's which is a flat out lie... I've been watching IS-Fs in the local market being listed and removed before 30 days consistently, and for 45 and higher...

Anybody else find this surprising?

They'll say anything to screw you out of money.
Dealership is crazy. My local dealership just sold a brand new '10 and my '08 this week alone. I talked to the sales person who was recommended to me by a friend (so I had a little more trust in her) and she said they've had 3 IS-F's in and sold this month alone. She said that it's not typical that they get that many in a month, but it does show they have no problem moving them.
The market for high end performance cars are not as good as they were prior to the economic downturn. 2010 ISF's are rare to find and special order in some cases for smaller dealerships.
It's also my understanding that CARMAX will give trade values based on a national average basis rather than just local estimates. They will ship a car that is traded in to an area where it may sell better. If you've got a local Lexus dealer that isn't in an area that has a good enthusiast base then they may offer less for your IS-F than you might see in other areas. My dealership doesn't "say anything to screw you out of money". Just for reference we recently offered 39k for an 08 USB with 19,000 miles on it. It really depends on the area you're in.

Well I live near Chicago... I saw the local Bentley dealership along with McGrath list some 08s at higher prices than I bought my vehicle for... I'm not calling Lexus dealership thieves, I realize profit has to be made, I just found it surprising Carmax offered more, but I guess that clarifies it.
I've had good luck at Carmax and bad luck, as far as estimates. Wow, 38 seems low still though. But I guess the car is technically 2.5 years old.
Also remember you have to pay taxes if you sell to carmax. Trade-ins you only pay tax on the difference of the traded value.
If anyone of you guys are interested in selling your USB IS-F let me know. I am in the market for one. Thanks!
