VSC Off

The first thing I do after starting the engine is to switch the VDIM to Sport Mode. Frequently, I will then hit the switch to turn the VSC off. Does switching this off override the Sport Mode? Does it matter that Sport Mode is on or off if the VSC is turned off?

If you can follow this, you're ready for Double Jeopardy.

Being in Sport mode is not affected by the VSC being on or off.
Aren't they essentially controlling the same thing though? Sport Mode leaves some traction control in place while VSC off gives no traction control? Are they controlling two completely different things?
Sport Mode let's you push the car to it's limits quicker and safer, while having the VSC off lets you do the same without the "safety net" of traction control and VSC.
Sorry for my ignorance ISFChamp. What you're saying then is that having the Sport Mode "On" with the VSC "Off" does no more than simply having VSC "Off"? Or no? Are traction control and VSC two totally separate things?
Traction control and VSC are two seperate safety features. Putting the IS-F in sport mode brings up the limits on what you can push the car to, plus it enhances the engine response, braking, and transmission.
Turning the VSC off still gives you the engine, trans, and braking "performance", but this time without the traction control and Vehicle Stablilty Control.

Look at it this way, in Sport mode, it's like letting you go balls out until the vehicle notices it needs to step in to correct your mistake of either braking too late, turning too fast, etc etc....

Being in Sport Mode with the VSC is balls out, you make a mistake, you better recover on your own, because you just bypassed the Vehicle Stability System and traction control..

Hope that helps..
+1

sport controls engine function,(rpms, ignition and fuel, shifting)
vsc controls drivetrain( LSD, steering, traction some shifting)

you can be in sport mode racing but if the turn you take will cause a drift, the vsc will actualy apply brake and reduce engine speed, I experianced this already, it was real cool how fast it does correct the Drift, I was stunned !

sport on , vsc off = FUN
sport off, vcs on = safe FUN

snow mode sucks(unless in snow or rain) but c'mon you're in an ISF

lol
