If you ask me, it looks like they oversized the hood for the needs. The engine bay looks crowded, but a low profile screw blower will take up no more room that the intake that is there now. We shall see.
Turbo lag is non-existant on small displacement, high duty cycle engines or where you group cylinders together to maximize pulse timing. The higher the CFM of the turbo the more it will lag obviously. So larger power always takes spool time. The turbos BMW uses are the size of a canned ham.
