Tints and Radar questions

Hey Everyone,

Two quick questions:

1. I have a black on black IS-F and can't decide what tint % is good enough. I want dark but not too dark to affect my vision at night. All you black car owners what do you recommend?

2. OK, this is probably the dumbest question ever but how does the Valentine 1 radar exactly work? I'm thinking about getting one but I'm not at all familiar with this system or any Radar for that matter. There I said it.......

Any help, suggestions appreciated.

Howdy UNK,

I'm curious as to what state are you located in? Nearly every state has some type of tint law that "limits" you to what you can put on your windows. The reason I put limits in quotes is that some states, like California, are really strict on their tint laws whereas others such as here in Texas aren't super strict on their laws and enforcement. I would look up your states laws to get a range of tint you want. I would say most states you can get away with 20% if you wanted to go a little darker. Personally, on your car, I would 20% regardless of what the tint law is.

In regards to your second question, I would visit the two links below that best explain how radar and laser work. A lot of radar detectors are fairly close when it comes to range but differ in features they offer the consumer, such as the Valentine 1 has arrows and a number counter while the 9500xi has radar detector locations. It's all going to depend on what your looking for. I would venture to say that the two most used radar detectors are Escort and Valentine. Let us know if you have any other questions and I hope this helps

Tints, if you dont want to dark go with 30 or 35's all around, and maybe 40-45 on the windesheild, thats a perfect set.

Valentine 1's are reliable, and more old school, but there are many new ones out now, i have the valentine 1 built into my mirror, if you wan to see go look at appearance and mods, and look for the post or pm me ill send you some pics, yes it does work it works on laser, so most cops still use laser to get a track of speeds, so yes its a reliable source to help keep you from getting tickets
The only thing V1's are useless against is Lidar which is instant on laser speed detection. Most all radar detectors can't detect it until it's already too late.
Thank you so very much for the answers on both of my questions and thanks for the links im going to check it out!

I saw your Thread and it was one of the sickest thing i have ever seen. What recommendations do you have for top Radars...?

Depends what you want to spend!!
Plug and play? Go 9500 or V1, each has their supporters, both are excellent.

You can spend a grand or so more, and have laser jammer systems installed, or that super cool in the mirror unit jc has..
You can make your Valentine 1 totally stealthy without any cords hanging off the dash and without even having the V1 on the windshield.
I have a black on black and am in CA...and I have limo tint all around. It's a little tricky at night, as it's very dark...so I take extra care when driving. it helps greatly during the day, and looks cool. I've had 2 tint tickets though.
i have a black IS-F also and i have 20% tint all around. its plenty dark and i can see fine out of it.. and the regards the v1 i think its worth it but in a sense not really . i have a k40 jammer and love it
V1 is good. I have a Cobra 8500 I picked up at Best Buy before a road trip and it has saved me plenty of times. The only legit speeding ticket I got was from a lidar, which the detector picked up too late, but it did allow me to slow down (where I would have continued to accelerate) saving me some $$ on a ticket and some points.

If you really loathe your local municipality and if they happen to use lasers often, get the blinder laser jammers (lasers jammers WORK and are not FTC crimes unlike radar JAMMERS)
