RPM at a standstill

so I have been travelling all week and the F has been in her barn. Whenever this happens I am reamzed at the speed and performance...like falling in love all over again.

However, I noticed today that when I am in drive, at a total stop she is idleing at just under 500RPM. Doesn't this seem way low? I thought I had stalled today because I could not hear the engine at all. Is this normal, or did something change while I was away?

I would say that's pretty normal. You didn't stall right, it was just idling low? I'll have to look at what I idle at next time, I can't remember for sure
Nope, she never stalled...
Alright, I haven't driven it since yesterday afternoon. I'm going to a local meet and will ask some other f owners for you as to what it idles at for them and if they've had any problems.
I went ahead and checked today for you. Everyone said they are idling around the same, right around 500 RPM's. I noticed I am as well  Shouldn't be anything to worry about
Great, thanks for the guidance. By the way Big Mike, today's Dallas Morning News had a nice piece on a head to head review of the C63 and M3. Didn't really pick one or the other as best, but worth a read.

Really? I'm going to have to pick it up! Thanks for letting me know!

I'm going to send you a PM in a second just so you know
I'm just under 1000. I asked the dealer about this when I picked it up, he said it was normal. Is it?

Yup, your fine. Most people idle between 500 and a 1000 depending on outside temp, engine temp, etc. No worries.
In my case when the A/C is on it always idles at about 800 or so however when I turn my A/C off it idles at 500 which still seems way too low for me. The weird thing is that in the same day and same conditions it idles at 500 and maybe an hour later or whatever at 7 or 800...
Hi Folks, let me throw something out there that might shed some light on this as its happened to me. I have noticed on some occasions when I put the car in "Sport" and drive it around a bit and then turn "Sport" off the car has lowered its idle to 500 rpm and is sluggish when taking off from a stop. I have to stop the car and put it back into "Park" and then the idle goes back to about 700 rpm in "Normal" mode. It doesn't happen all the time, just some occasions. I have not had time to take it to a dealer but will soon as its certainly not right when idling at 500 rpm. Just curious, did you just come out of "Sport" when you noticed it?
no it does it some days and only when its in a D or R gear, it goes back up to about 700 as u said. I'm curious too!
the idle rpm will change depending on how the engine is being loaded. in gear, in neutral, ventilation on, ventilation off, a/c on, a/c off, cold start, warm start. if my car wasnt sitting pristine under its car cover in the garage until next may i would test it all for you with all the combinations, but i cant do that.....so you'll have to try it all yourself.
That is correct but what I feel is weird is that with A/C off under the same circumstances, in D position it would idle at 500 sometimes, and other times at 800

even if the a/c is off and the fan is still on it will be different. the ventilation fan takes power, the a/c compressor takes more power
ya well in my case i never have the fan on, if the fan is on it means the compressor is on... now that the weather is getting better in my part of the world I can drive with the windows down.
For me it's usually 500 RPM idle without the A/C and 800 RPM with the A/C when in D without Sport Mode. When you put it into park it's 800 RPM I think.
ya this seems to be everyone's issue which obviously shouldn't be referred to as an issue if it's the case with everyone but i hate it!
