Rattles!

2511 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Flipside909
I only had my IS-D for 10 days or so.... Very satisfying car so far. However, as I live in LA and drive locally often, I have noticed that I already have a strange symphony of rattles coming from several directions. This only occurs over bad roads, but seriously, I only have 300mi on the clock... Is this something I will have to deal with regularly? How helpful are the dealers when it comes to rattles? I hear rattles mostly from the back, but also from the sunroof direction and the pillars. Please help!

I don't know what to tell you. Aside from a stiff suspension that can rattle you on bad roads, I haven't experienced anything I would classify as a rattle.
I had a couple of rattles that my dealer was able to resolve at least more or less:

1) The passenger side window seals made a "rattling" sound. I could isolate this by rolling down the window (even cracking it) and the sound would go away. The dealer used a silicone lubricant to take care of it. I've found I've had to apply the silicone lubricant a couple of times myself later to keep the rattling away. I had the same problem with my 04 TL, although it seems that my F is more prone to it.

2) There was a rattle in the passenger side air vent so the dealer added some felt strips. That seemed to get rid of that rattle.

My rattles seems to be very dependent on the road surface. The rattles would only manifest themselves on certain roads and not others. I took the Lexus tech out on the roads that exhibited the symptoms so they were able to isolate and fix them.

Good luck,

Jeff
I've experience a host of rattles in my 2009 ISF. I do have about 27k miles logged on my car. Bring your car back to the dealer for service and point out the issue to your advisor.

I personally bring my ISF exclusively to Longo Lexus. They have very detail oriented techs that know most of the rattle issues out there.
I managed to isolate the rattle and it is coming from behind the back seat headrests. It is not really a rattle but a 'knock', heard when driving over most potholes, as if something is loose. Will take it to the dealer next week. I called the dealer to make the appointment and have never in my life been treated so nicely on the phone by a service department (I have owned only Audis and MBs). I feel special already.
Good luck with your visit. Let us know your results.
