Hello all,

Just got my black/black IS F last Thursday, pretty much perma-smile ever since. I am looking for some input on radar detector choices. The dealership offers K40 Calibre and Laser difusers for about $2500.00 installed. A friend recommended Beltronics STI-R system. I definitely want a concealed unit. Any thoughts?

for radar u cant go wrong with the v1 unit. it has arrows to let u know which side the cops are coming from, and it never goes out of date because every couple years when they release new technology u can send ur existing unit in to get the new software. i believe ur first upgrade is free. i have it in my bmw have had it for 2 years and swear buy it.

the problem with the beltronics or the passport is every couple years they get obsolete. and whatever u do, dont get one of the cheap cobra/whistler ones. theyre useless. to many false signals.

go to www.v1pop.com
best 400 you will ever spend

for laser jammers, i have the blinder M40. unit was also around 350-400. installed about 600. so total i spent 1k, and i think its just as good if not better than the k40 unit.

Have to agree on this one. The V1 is a great unit.

I hate power cables running down my clean dash. Nothing worse than some unsightly telephone cord snaking through my console. This doesn't sound like it will be a problem with you since you are considering a concealed install. I personally think I'll never get 10 speeding tickets so spending $1,500 - $2,000 doesn't make financial sense for me.

My compromise was purchasing the Escort Solo S2. It's cordless and small and does not interrupt the clean look of my interior. I owned a previous version for 4 years and was not terribly impressed with its functionality or its battery life. The newest version is top notch though. Much greater range, much better programmable functionality and at least 4 times the battery life. I'm on my original set of batteries for a couple of months now and it still shows 3 out of 4 bars of life. The suction cups are much more industrial as well so the unit does not dip down at the front.

I've used a bunch of different types of radar detectors but the V1 is hands down the best one. It's a lil bit bulky but saved my a$$ several times over the years!

For years, in all my cars I use the Escort Solo. New version works great. In the ISF I clip it on the visor.. 100% accurate.

ive said this before and ill say it again. you can HARDWIRE the v1 so theres no cords. ive done it with my M3 and im positive theres a way to do it with the lexus. its very clean, no cords and perserves ur cig adaptor which i normally use for ipod/phone charger.

I've done it already (hardwired the V1 in the IS-F) and it's pretty nice. Not too hard either.

yeah its not hard. just play with the light switch in the roof in the center console. take that unit out, your v1 should come with everything you need to attach to that power source and bam! you have a nice neat hardwired v1 unit for your car. assuming you bought the unit new and from v1 it should have everything....

So I assume that with a hardwired V1 the unit rests somewhere high around the rearview mirror? Does this make the unit's main advantage (direction of radar) somewhat compromised? Do you really want to look up to see where the radar is coming from or should you really be hitting the brakes when you hear the beep?

Not sitting behind the wheel of my F its hard to imagine the set up. Seems like an exposed wire would still be running from the dome light to the unit. Perhaps sitting in the car and seeing for myself would clear everything up. I'll try to remember next time I get in.

Here's what mine looks like:

I dunno.....that 1st photo shows the damn unit having to be propped up by a bicycle!
Yeah, I barely even fit in the drivers seat with that pesky front wheel and handlebars in the way... :D

I used to have it on my previous vehicle, actually works fairly nice. The one thing you have to watch out for is the fitting, make sure it will fit on the Lexus mirror

I ended up just using the Escort Solo S2 cordless that I had from my previous car. I rest it on the center speaker with the suction cups, it is pretty discrete. I couldn't justify spending 2K+ for a concealed unit, and so far it seems to be doing the job....no tickets. I would not be against buying another unit if it would protect me better....do you guys think the Solo is adquate?

The Escort Solo 2 is a great unit no doubt, there are other units available from Escort that have more updated technology such as as being able to block out regular falsing zones, GPS integration and being able to download safety camera (red light cameras) into the radar detector unit. The 9500ix and the 9500i both have this capability. If you decide you might want to upgrade to a new Escort unit, let me know. I'm an authorized dealer! Give me a call and we'll discuss pricing:) . Here is a link to my thread.
