Pre-Collision Package

Hello IS-F forum, this is my first post here.

My question is about the number of IS-Fs that have the pre-collision package. I have read on the site whee some people are not fond of the radar cruise control, but I absolutely LOVE mine! I find it hard to believe the rarity of that option in IS-Fs.

So, does anyone have any statistics on how many 2008, 2009, 2010 IS-Fs were manufactured with the pre-collision package? I have looked at about 150 IS-Fs for sale online over the last month and have seen 3 that had the pre-collision package (all 3 were 2008 and USB in color).

I have no concrete numbers, but maybe I can help a little.

My educated guess is that 1 to 5% of IS-Fs have the PCS/radar cruise. I would say that you will find that option primarily only on a 2008. My reason for this answer is that most IS-Fs came with a set option package depending on the region they were initially delivered, to my knowledge the PCS/Radar cruise was not part of any of those option packages. Given this, it is likely that nearly every PCS/Radar cruise was a special order car. Also, the PCS/Radar cost almost $3000 as an option on a new IS-F. From the very small number of IS-Fs I've seen with PCS/RC, it really doesn't add much to the resale value(good if you buy it used).

I myself have a Red IS-F with Alpine white leather and PCS/Radar, I have speculated that it is a rare combo, but I have no data to back it up. The radar cruise is a great option if you travel a lot on open highways, if traffic is heavy the system is less usefull.

For the 2009 and 2010 IS-Fs I'd guess the PCS/Radar cruise was special order only and you won't see many with that option. Also the production numbers in general for 2009 and 2010 are much lower than 2008 on the IS-F. Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Do you have any numbers on how many were manufactured (for the USA) in 2009 and 2010? I have read that 1700 were shipped to the USA for 2008.

Did you special order your IS-F?

Did you special order your IS-F?

No, I didn't special order my IS-F. I bought it used with 6000 miles, and it was originally driven by a lexus factory rep(not a dealer) in California. I was primarily looking for an IS-F with the white interior, and mine just happened to have the PCS/Radar cruise--it was a nice find.
As far as production numbers, sometime between 11/08 and 3/09, the 2009 IS-F went to special order only so there are a lot less examples. For 2010, there are new models in dealerships, but production is still probably less than the original 2008 run. Hopefully one of the dealers that post on this site can provide some actual numbers, because most of what I'm telling you I've read here and elsewhere about the car.

Radar Cruise

It will sound an audible tone if you are approaching an object at a high rate of speed that the computer deems might cause an impact, but it is a lot more than that.

The system allows your ISF to automatically match the speed of the vehicle in front of you if they are going slower than you have your cruise control set for. When that vehicle is no longer in front of you then the care automatically speeds up back to the cruising speed you had set. It is a fantastic feature that I never thought I would want until I drove a Mercedes 2010 E500 that had it. Then I was hooked on that feature (adaptive cruise [BMW], dystronic cruise [Mercedes], radar cruise [Lexus], or whatever other name a different car manufacturer calls it).

The radar cruise is only currently available from Lexus as part of the Pre-Collision Package. The ISF senses an impact and helps braking, locks the safety belts, etc to help avoid a collision or lessen the damage to you and your car if you do collide.

Welcome aboard! PCS/Radar Cruise is a very expensive option so this option was not readily available for ISF's unless 1) Special ordered by customer or 2) packaged/special ordered by region or dealership.

Most cars packaged in 08 typically had ML/NAV. Depending on the region, cars were packaged certain ways. Western region typically ordered ML/NAV only. Southern region usually selected ML/NAV and PA. Those in the north east and eastern would go ML/NAV/PA and HW. Never was there a whole fully optioned packaged ISF unless special ordered.

I just so happened to get the PCS/Radar. I've never used the Radar, since it only works in full automatic mode (not manual / sport mode).

However, I am so used to the PCS when I am backing up or parking, that it is a little weird not to hear the beeps in other cars now.

Overall, I like the PCS, but don't care much for the radar cruise control.

I think you're confusing the Park Assist (PA) with Radar Cruise/Pre Collision System. PCS is integrated with the Radar Cruise system. PCS allows control of your ISF via VDIM system to avoid an eminent crash situation. PCS will engaged the brakes and increase steering response when needed.
