Can anyone post vids of the sound difference between the stock isf and one fitted with only the k&n added (preferably in the cabin too) as i am thinking of getting this again.
Some other clips of the toms filter would also be handy if i dont like the K&n. Im all for gains but i want to retain that deep growl the ISF has and i aim to not make it raspy or loud in any way.
Nothing beats a real 1/4 mile pass on the track.

to me it only seems a slight bit louder than the stock intake. and because you eliminate the air box/secondary intake flap it starts the louder noise earlier (lower rpm) just as if you did the diy intake flap mod (bypassed the secondary flap).
that sounds good. I didnt know there was a secondary flap in the airbox. Where can i read up on all this handy info about the isf? I like to know about the car i own not just drive it. Thanks.

you are quite wrong. i did the diy mod, and i now have the k&n, and the k&n is way louder then the stock setup under any circumstance. there is no resonator in the intake pipe and its letting alot more air through
and its been proven the second flap mod slows the car down.

i'm not wrong. it's my opinion/perception. it's way louder at idle? it's way louder at cruising speed? now that's wrong. wot is it louder? sure. by how much? i don't give a sh!t.

i also don't care or give much thought to what possible sound level increase this mod brought as i did it for better efficiency and to pick up a few hp.

and after i get my exhaust put on i will probably hear even less of the intake :D

the only time it sounds the same is at cruise, under any throttle and its noticeably different. and once the exhaust quiets down, the intake is still heard over it...thats how loud it is

The Lexus IS F Engine: Power with a Purpose

I've had my K&N sitting in a box for a month now and I just can't bring my self to pull the trigger and install it. It just seems that there is so much back and forth about whether it really has any gains that I think I will just let some more time tell the story. Thanks so much for posting up the results though.
and its been proven the second flap mod slows the car down.

When was this proven? I must have missed that thread.
1/4 Mile in 12.11? Is it possible? I might have to look at the numbers again..

If we lived in a make believe world without aero drag and traction issues it would be 12.11.
Dyno drag numbers are useless.
Thanks Joe Z now I can finally understand why the K&N intake should not be used. Why take off a filter that is filtering crap for both intakes? It makes no sense to me. Why filter one air entry into the car when there are two?

And Mino you are right DYNO numbers are crap. Close that hood and than re test in the real world. Thats what the real test is all about. Big rep to both of you.
The K&N makes a noticeable difference, the mid range is smoothed out beautifully and the top end is cleaner and punchier, around town its very livable noise wise and you barely notice any difference from the stock item. But boot it and its a super loud induction roar - and i mean real race car loud, I have had mine for a few months installed it in a snap and local Lexus dealer loves it and approves of it - :)
Where, When, and How was it proven that this modification actually lost power? Was that a true statement?

Also where is an accurate real world test showing that it gained power?

Doing Dyno testing on two different days under different conditions proves nothing. Ambient temperatures, humidity, etc can all affect results. Doing back to back mods in real time in the same day within the same hour or so is the most accurate for seeing if a mod really does anything because we are talking about a fairly small power increase to begin with.

"Real World" results for testing power are DYNO testing, not seat of your pants highway testing. That proves nothing.

Likewise I find the dyno quarter mile time to be equally useless information.

Factual informed information would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Lets put all this to rest. Anyone in the Bay Area (San Jose/San Francisco/Monterey) with the K&N or any other intake. Lets race with mine and see if there is a real difference. I have no mods.

Please let me know what happens and who wins :)

If this is done, make sure the vehicle weights (including driver/passengers) are equalized as much as possible. Also, report any differences in wheels/tires.
