K&N 69-8703TS Air Intake Installed

I finally installed the K&N Cold Air Intake System. Man this changes things. It sounds like I changed the beast under the hood it came with, with a new one. The second intake growl (@3600 RPM) is gone, but it has been replaced with this huge roar that starts around 4000 RPMs (depending on what gear) and gets louder as you increase the RPMs. (I would say that after the intake was installed each gear is now more defined than before)

I was debating over this and the BLITZ throttle controller for my x-mas present. I went with the intake first because I wanted to hear the difference as well. Although my butt meter can hardly tell the difference. The final piece to this beautiful symphony will be an exhaust.

This is my first performance upgrade (and install) to any vehicle that I have owned. Figured everything before the "F" was not even worth it. The install went flawless with no missing or extra parts after. I wonder if something is wrong because of that. :)

wait till you add the Blitz throttle controller, another monster will wake up... hahahhaa
yes the k&n definately makes the car sound straight savage. best intake noise i have ever heard. obscenely loud. the joez exhaust completes the package.....driving my F back to back with a stock one, was like night and day. definately feel a difference in power, response and the sounds mine makes is just orgasmic
Yeah, it seems like it makes a whole new car.
You guys are killing me, no ISF yet but those are the mods I want. (And the DVD NAV override)

Can someone please make a video of this??????????

I need something to watch on my big screen TV until I get the real thing.
I had the K&N on my IS-F, definitely is beastly sounding. Completely different sound. VERYYYY loud. I took it off but I may put it back on.
Bjg403 I Also Installed The New K&n Cold Air Intake On My 09 Isf I Also Have Muffler Delete.this Car Sounds Really Bad A!!!!!!
Be aware of that pink oil..

I am a big fan of the K&N filters. Why for the life of me they use oil on their filters and others don't boggles my mind. Be aware that the pink oil they use in their filters ( to stop dirt particles) can easily get sucked into the throttle body and into the MAF sensor.
I highly recommend if you get a K&N brand...let the filter "dry out" for several days before installing. When this oil gets on your MAF sensor..it will mess up your idle. I designed the first open air filter kit 12 years ago using the K&N filter for the 94-97' Landcruisers...this filter PLAGUED my customers....and me...so just be aware..

I have heard this before but i emailed them and was told this:

HI Paul,
This is no problem.
Unfortunately the info you have is an urban myth! ( The web is especially good for spreading these!)
Please find attached a clip from our FAQ page, and not our extensive testing and pledge.

I hope this will not deter you from choosing K&N in the future!

27. Will a K&N filter cause my vehicle's mass air sensor to fail?

No, it is both impossible and ridiculous.

It is impossible because we know that the oil treatment on our cotton is very small (usually less than 2 ounces). Once the oil is properly and evenly absorbed through the cotton, no oil will come off, even under extreme engine conditions. It is ridiculous, because no dealership or service provider has ever been able to provide us with evidence to support this "myth," and in fact, our investigations have revealed that even authorized dealerships are simply speculating and do not have the test equipment necessary to know whether the sensor has failed or why. It is even more ridiculous because some car manufacturers use and sell air filters treated with oil on a regular basis. There are also major brands of disposable air filters that are treated with oil. We all use oil for the same reason, it helps in the filtration efficiency of an air filter. For more information on this topic including videos, see our Mass Air Flow Sensor Statement page.
Out of the millions of air filters we sell, we only receive a handful of consumer complaints each month that a dealership or service provider has blamed a vehicle sensor repair on our product. We take each complaint very seriously and see it as an opportunity to stop a consumer from being taken advantage of. We investigate the situation thoroughly and take full responsibility for resolving the issue. For more information on how we educate and persuade the service provider to reconsider their position, see Mass Air Flow Sensor Information & Testing. We are so confident in our ability to resolve these situations and to help a consumer fight back that we offer our Consumer Protection Pledge.

As a result of our standing up for consumer rights and providing assistance to resolve a disagreement, we have had over 100 actual sensors sent to us by dealerships who claimed our product had caused them to fail. Microscopic, electronic and chemical testing revealed that none of the sensors were contaminated by K&N oil (K&N Detailed MAF Sensor Test Results). What is perhaps the single biggest clue to what is going on is that over 50% of these sensors were not broken in the first place for any reason. Click here for more information on how this may happen.
Kind Regards

I'm amazed

Well...I like their filters....and have one...but I keep it dry... i've cleaned several sensors myself and the idle gets back up to spec after cleaning. Nonetheless...I urge ya'll to let a new filter dry out for a few days before install. Again, I am a big believer of the K&N . But ask yourselves....why does no other manufacturer use an oil? Anyway they are GREAT filters!

theres no chip available for this car, the next mod is basically an exhaust system. the blitz throttle controller also changes the way the F responses to your foot.
Can someone make a video of the Typhoon intake from the Cabin? I really want to hear this as the RPM build. (Not rev the engine while parked, but actually drive the car and open up the throttle!)

I'm trying to imagine how it sounds.

My STi had a Typhoon, and with the turbo it sounded pretty sick when the engine started building boost. I really want to compare.
K&N 69-8703TS Legality

Buyers beware. From the K&N Website:

***
This intake system is not legal for street use in the following states:

Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
***

Your IS-F will fail the emissions test in the above states!

My F with K&N typhoon intake and Joe Z's PTS exhaust at Race City race coarse last year. Turn up the volume to hear it better. Sounds of it at WOT and gearing down.

ENJOY

PS: Don't mind the spin out at the end of the video. It scared the crap out of me lol. I had TRAC/VDIM fully off.

I agree with the sound. With just the K&N Intake, the sound from under the hood is so mean...but as soon as you add the exhaust, it helps even out the madness our cars make. I have to say our cars have some of the best sounds out there.
K&N sound inside cabin

sorry this is really late......The phone was in the car windshield mount (driver side), which covers the lens (hence the black screen). I only have the K&N installed everything else is stock.
