Just ordered K&N Intake + Borla Catback

I decided to try this combo since everybody has been using Joe-Z.

K&N was $265 shipped and I forget what the catback was $1300 or so.

Update:

Installed the K&N intake... Sounds MUCH better... Sounds like a V8 should. You can start hearing the difference at roughly 2k rpm and full throttle it really does sound like a race car. The car no longer sounds like chewbacca when accelerating. Did not really feel the difference however that might of been because I was distracted with the sound which was LOUD.

Got the Borla cat back installed today. It sounds beastly. I love it. There is drone, but that's expected on an aftermarket exhaust. The car turns heads when I go over 2k rpm, every time.

At full throttle there is absolutely no comparison from stock to aftermarket. It is LOUD. It idles slightly louder.

It was definitely worth it for the sound alone, it sounds good and can get really loud. HOWEVER, Borla is known for making poorly fitted exhausts, and I was the recipient of one... The installer basically told me Borla f'd it up and if I hear rattling to come back and he's going to try to work with it. He said the exhaust might start rattling when it warms up, and it did. He said some guy had one put on his Mustang a week ago and same thing happened.

...So I'll have to go back which I really hate doing. I'll get sound clip up / vid tomorrow.

wow, $265 shipped is very cheap for the k and n. did you buy your isf from the toyota dealer as a certified used car? I know they will put it in for you there but you will get charged an arm and a leg for labor, the K and N intake is probably a 2-3 hour labor job at the dealer alone and the exhaust is another hour or so, its gonna be $300-$400 plus tax. Plus I dunno if they are going to void your extended warranty if its a certified used car from there. where are you located at? anywhere near philly? I charge alot cheaper...
k&n install is easy. just follow the instructions. i looked at the borla instructions and they also look straightforward. i wouldn't even let a dealer install them for free as most are retarded monkeys that will undoubtedly mess up your car.

my dealer couldn't even install tires correctly and those have inside and outside clearly printed on them.

also, can't wait to hear it. i want the same system, but am hesitant to dump too much money into this car.

Why would that be:confused:

No I did not buy it with a certified pre-owned warranty because they simply cannot offer it, only at a Lexus dealership.

Thanks for the info, depending on the complexity, I might install the intake myself.

I'm in Chicago.

Oh, and the catback is out of stock which is a bummer...
I'm very happy with my Borla cat back, about 30% louder than stock but well worth it. I coupled it with a JoeZ intake pipe and Tom's filter. But I'm happiest with the result of installing an F sport rear stabilizer, handling has improved A LOT.

i have no problem spending money on modding a car if i will see real results (like my z06). but dropping money on an intake and exhaust results in very little performance improvement (that can be felt). i do like the idea of a catless system on the f though :D
^^^^Folks have run Dynos on the exhaust and intake, and the results are positive, and the increases can be felt. The cat back exhausts are not catless. They remove the secondary cats from the system, but leave the primaries untouched.

Do you think a dealership would install these? Bought my IS-F from a Toyota dealership...
Where did you find this?
you can get the K&N from this guy: He can only do phone orders, since I did a price match from another website, he said they can match the price they gave me but has to be phoned in. I received theintake in 3 days. Brand new shipped from K&N. Great price. no tax free shipping. Tell him Matt from texas sent you.

yes i also ordered an intake from him. it was a little more cuz i live in canada so i had to get international shipping, then the price conversion. but it still came to just 300USD. i ordered it on tuesday, it shipped out wednesday, the status says it went though the sorting facility to the final destination today, so had i ordered on monday it would have been here this evening. pretty good for an international order.
255 from here: http://partsshowroom.com/

that's where i got mine
Can someone comment on the ISF stock exhaust system? I understand it has 4 cats.

Do the street version exhaust systems leave the cats alone?

From what I see, the piping gets replaced, but the mufflers are left alone, is that still holds?

they also wanted 21.40 for shipping. Shipping is free and no tax from the other guy. plus shipped direct from K&N.

On most other systems out there, the secondary resonators and mufflers are gone replaced with there own mufflers, but tips are left in-tacked.

Let me know how the intake sounds. I'm thinking about buying one.
Intake arrives tomorrow. Exhaust ships Friday and arrives Monday.
the intake sounds f'in ridiculous.

I agree,
The car sounded "angry" is how my buddy described it.
I attempted to record my last dyno session with K&N & Joe Z exhaust installed,,,all you could hear was a crackle in the speakers because of the deafining sound!

How'd the dyno session go? Did you get a before and after of just the intake gains? I'm still stuck on the fence on whether or not I should get it.
