ISF Sticky Brakes at take off and stop

Hi all,

I've had this problem with my ISF since I bought it. I expect a sports car to have sensitive brakes but I don't think this is how they're meant to be.

Basically the brakes are really difficult -- actually impossible -- to modulate at traffic stops and gos. They make a really loud grinding sound at creeping speeds too. I basically cannot do what some call a "limousine stop" where you let off the brakes in a way that doesn't create a jerk at a stop light.

It gets slightly better when I go at a high speed and brake to a stop (sort of a brake bedding), but it doesn't go away completely.

I talked to a guy who runs an F-specific shop and he said it could be sticky calipers... though I'm not sure how to resolve that.
Could also be non-OEM brake pads or something... not sure. Already had my mechanic clean the brakes best he can.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this too. Would really be nice to resolve this because it makes dailying the car a bit bothersome at times. Really wanna resolve this because little things like this drive me insane

Hey! Yeah, I’ve seen this on a few ISFs. Sticky brakes at low speeds are usually either sticking calipers or pads that aren’t bedding properly, especially if they’re aftermarket. Even cleaning helps sometimes, but if the pistons aren’t sliding freely, you’ll get that grinding/jerky feel.
A couple things I’d try:
  1. Check the caliper slide pins and pistons — make sure they move smoothly and aren’t gummed up.
  2. Swap pads — OEM or well-known performance pads often bed much better at low speeds.
  3. Brake fluid — if it’s old or contaminated, calipers can stick more. A fresh flush can make a difference.
If you end up touching up anything around the calipers while doing maintenance, I’ve used the Xtryfun Touch Up Paint Kit on my F’s caliper brackets and tiny scratches — really easy, matches OEM, keeps things looking clean after working on brakes.
