Car webzine Motive posted this very brief but very intriguing article:
Lexus IS-F Supercharger Coming Soon
Sources within the Lexus sales network tell us it's in the works--a supercharger for the monstrous IS-F sedan. Not to be outdone by BMW or Mercedes-Benz, the 'charged Lexus should put out over 500 hp and dominate the nearest drag strip. The package will likely be offered straight from Toyota Racing Development, but rest assured that Motive will be using our contacts to get one from McGrath Lexus as soon as possible. The claimed output is somewhere in the realm of 500 hp. Stay tuned.
LexusF.com's take on this story? Take it with a huge grain of salt, preferrably kosher or rock. Granted, supercharging is TRD's preferred means of boost, as evidenced by their superchargers for the 4-cylinder 1ZZ-FE, 2AZ-FE and 3RZ-FE; V6 5VZ-FE and V8 2UZ-FE engines, not to mention the world-first Eaton twin-vortices supercharger (TVS) developed for the 2GR-FE (non-direct injected) 3.5-liter V6. We've been down this road before, however, as no less a reputable source than trade journal Automotive News, back at the turn of the millennium promised us a TRD supercharger for the 1st-generation Lexus IS 300's 2JZ-GE inline 6 that never materialized. As Motive mag tells us, stay tuned...
Our thanks go out to Andrei Sfintescu, an accomplished autocrossing friend of this author, for bringing this story to our attention, and to Darren Seeman and his ever-valuable ToyotaReference.com for providing all those Toyota engine codes.
