Tire manufacturers set different specifications for each tire size and model usually dictated by the car manufacturer itself.

In most cases, the difference in sidewall design and shape is based on the width of the tire. If you were to upsize to a 265 or 275, the tire will sit alot more square on the rim than a 255 would.
