hey everybody! im new here and im thinking about buying an is-f. right now i have a 2008 535i bmw that has nothing but problems, well the same problem over and over.i like the lexus but im worried about the fact its a first year production(im looking at an 08 because of the price you can get them for.) i made this mistake with my car right now its the first year with the twin turbo and its a big headache. i want to know if anybody has had any problem with the 08 if-f? if you can use the nav while your driving? can you have sat radio and the ipod hooked through the car system? so far thats it
thanks.

You can use the nav while you're driving but you have to bring it to a shop for them to hack it. You can have sat and ipod for the car audio but I'm not too sure if you can have both. I think someone on this forum had both and definitely its going to cost a bit for all the work.

what about major problems with the car itself?
Welcome to the site!

You can use the navigation while in drive if you hack it. There are three ways to do this. There is a do it yourself on here that requires some time and wiring (nearly impossible to reverse if there is a problem with the hack and your navi stops working), you can bring it to a shop and they can do it for you or I believe there is a software CD that does it for you (I'd have to do a little more research but I believe it is available for the F).

There really haven't been any major problems with the F's so far. I believe the highest mileage I've heard of is close to 20k and nothing wrong whatsoever. Your going to find some complaints about various things such as excessive brake dust, quick brake pad fading, things of that nature but nothing really wrong with the car that I know or have heard of.

Hopefully one of the FChamps or Flipside can provide you with more info about specific instances but as far as I know, no major failings reported on the F. Toyota and Lexus make great cars and trucks that are known for their reliability

Hey
Well I'll first start off as i have tons of cars from benzes to bmws to vetts and even lambos and if your looking for a four door every day or even a weekend rocket and looking for the 08. I think you will be more then happy wit if F. I had a lil truble with the belt but Lexus changed the pully and it's been great. Also I have 15,000 miles on it and drive extreamly hard on it I've been through 3 sets of tiers and mite I add try to get the PS2 rubber on it if you can there both great tiers they offer but PS2 is the way to go. But everyone has there own preffrence. I have the 2008 550i BMW with the sport pkg and also the 2008 135i convertable both with lil mods and both fun cars but not a F. But hope I helped alil Jack
There aren't are reports about major problems. Lexus has always been a reliable brand and cost of maintenance is cheaper then the European competition. Mostly minor issues are being reported depending actually. Like Mike mention there's the excessive brake dust and fading. Also there are pittings on the rim but that can be prevented if the proper care is being taken. Recently there's a post about some having issues with the 2nd gear. There's a lot of good post on the forum. I recommend checking them all out.

Hey Vandal,
BMW, twin-turbo, first year production-yikes!!! I feel your pain. Typically, Lexus will develop their cars and test and test for several years before they are released to the public for use. Here are the problems I've seen with IS-F's purchased through this dealership so far: 1. Had to fix a customers right rear wheel because he curbed it at the bank the second day of ownership(we paid for that one, felt bad for him). 2. Had to replace rear tires on one (not sure why?:D ). 3. Had a customer complain of pitting on the wheels, turned out to be embedded brake dust which was very successfully cleaned with claybar and some elbow grease!

The Lexus has an AUX input port so you can play an MP3 or i-pod through the radio but doesn't allow touch screen access for that device. We have installed an interface cable in several cars that allows you to have satellite radio and control the i-pod via the touch/Nav screen. It is an aftermarket item only.

If you haven't been out to look at or test drive one yet, you should. Pay close attention to the fit and finish, the quality of materials, the leather and design of the sport bucket seats front and rear in the IS-F. Also look a the paint finish compared to others in this segment..it is unmatched. The guys here on the forum that own these cars can tell you that!

There are some unbelievable deals currently on remaining 08 models, however it ends 2/2/09. Let us know what state you live in.

Yes I saw the paint on a 2009 m3 and orange peel like crazy
There are several aftermarket options to utilize satellite radio either xm or sirius and your ipod. The Lexus Accessory Ipod controller works well, but will remove your access to xm or sirius. The Lexus accessory ipod controller is made by Alpine for Toyota/Lexus. You can utilze the AUX IN port as Doug mentioned above if you want to use XM or Sirius at the same time. A company called Vaistech makes a unit that allows you to use XM/Sirius and Ipod at the same time.

ive been quoted 53,315 out the door(maybe off by a hundred and by a few different dealers) for a brand new fully loaded 08.really thinking about it.i havent driven the car yet, hows the steering?is it tight? im really leaning on getting it!
thanks guys
Here's a little more info to help persuade you more into buying the F you can actually haggle down to 50k or in the high 49k. Check out edmund.com just use this as a reference when haggling. But no guarantee that you'll get it for that price. It's just an ideal range.

53 something out of the door is a great deal. no one knows how much longer all these good deals will last. it is a very unstable market and who knows what lexus would do next? acura is alreaday holding production of less popular models, lexus may do the same thing with ISF since it's a limited production car anyway. i got mine a month a go for ~ 55 out of door, so you are actually doing much better than i did.
fully loaded black on black.thats what i though,im pretty sure im gonna get it!!
nice. how many miles on it? the sticker on mine is $62,3xx. mine is about the same out the door ~$54k + shipping since its out of state. ultrasonic blue/alpine interior. it's a demo with 2,4xx miles.

you better hop on the deal soon. the $5k incentive lexus is giving out to dealers is done on 2/2/09.
