IS-F gas pedal info

I was in for my 15k mile service yesterday and specifically asked my service adviser about the whole gas pedal fiasco going on right now. As many of you know we IS-F owners as well as the ISX50 owners were sent a letter telling us to remove our floor mats. After speaking to him, the floor mats are not the problem, it is actually the brake pedal. The ES gas pedal fix is already being implemented, and he told me that since the IS-F has an aluminum single peice brake pedal, it would take a little longer for the fix to come out. What they actually will be doing is create an extended gas pedal, which will get rid of the whole "floor mat causing the gas pedal to stick" issue. So just thought I'd give the community the heads up. When the fix is out, they will again be sending out letters to notify us.

Thanks for the update!

I haven't heard anything about a fix yet just yet either, we will wait and see how it's going to be fixed.

Sorry don't want to seem like a total fool, but if the problem is with the brake pedal, why are they engineering a fix for the gas pedal?

I thought from the get go the problem was with the gas pedal and not the brake pedal. I had also thought that the acceleration problems were originally linked to the gas pedal being too long and getting trapped under the mat, so they are going to create an 'extended' gas pedal? isn't that even worse?

He may be referring to a similar set up to what BMW has for accelerator pedals. They start from the floor and go up. I have not heard of any speak of longer gas pedals or changing brake pedals FWIW.

sorry guys, there was a major typo. I meant that they are going to lengthen the gas pedal a little to prevent it from getting stuck in the floormat. Your floormats themselves will be kept as is, but right now it is best to remove the driverside fllormat to avoid any issues until they officially come out with the gas pedal fix. Again, this is info straight from my service advisor at lexus of westminister in southern califronia.

I don't think so. Lexus is still deciding what they want to do. This is from my Lexus Profile:

Special Service Campaign 9SG: VEHICLE COVERED BY SAFETY RECALL 9LG
Your vehicle is covered by the Potential Floor Mat Interference with Accelerator Pedal Recall (Safety Recall 9LG).

Lexus is currently in the process of finalizing the recall remedy for this model. You will be notified by first class mail as soon as your dealer is prepared to perform the remedy on your vehicle. Once you receive the notification, please contact your local dealer to have this important remedy performed.

We request that you take out any removable driver's floor mat and NOT replace it with any other floor mat until the Safety Recall remedy is performed on your vehicle.

In the event you choose not to take out your removable floor mat, Lexus strongly recommends that you ensure that the correct floor mat is being used, that it is properly installed and secured, that it is not flipped over with the bottom-side up, and that one floor mat is not stacked over another.

Making the pedal longer would serve no purpose. On the ES and Camry they are shortening the pedal.

Anyway, mine stays where it is, as does the mat.

You may want to look at this thread from CL. If this is in fact what they are doing - They wont be doing it to my F.

Well the new pedal looks better than the old "hack" method of fixing the problem.

I'm with you though, I like my pedal the way it is, it has at the minimum 2.5" clearance from the floor mat. No need for a new pedal here!

Did they say anything about an ECU reset that limits rpms if gas and brake are pushed at the same time!? I definitely don't want that done, but I'm told it's part of the gas pedal fix, unless you opt out.

^This is rumored to be part of the fix but I haven't heard for sure yet if it's really part of it...I do know they do something to the pedal itself but not sure about any type of software update for the drive by wire system

Not a rumor, came from my service manager.

^Just because your service manager tells you something, does not mean it is true at all, trust me.

Check out the below thread for reference, it's more likely to be updated more quickly than this one. On page 2, post #17, Joe Z is inquiring with Ryan (Flipside909) to see if the software is actually being changed or if it is simply a rumor that this is supposed to fix the issue. Since the fix is fairly new, everyone is waiting to hear what exactly is being done before bringing the F in (shorter pedals and/or software changes).

You guys really beleives there was a problem with those Toyota?? Toyota dealers in Canada and USA never got a single case of these, even Transport Canada and J.D Power confirm this, it all begins with the Unions fighting Toyota....then NHTSA/Gov. Motors brought that to the media to try to slow Toyota....we all know why...... You can try to find a real comfirm case if you want, but you won't be able. Right now Toyota is discussing with lawyers to evaluate the risk and possible consequences of bringing the truth to the population, kind of dangerous when you're fighting the American government. They have to save G.M., and they'll do anything.

^My buddy at Lexus corporate just returned my call about it and you're correct! Not only are they shortening the pedal but they're giving the car a software update so that when both the gas and brake pedals are pressed at the same time, the fuel injectors stop putting fuel into the engine. Going to be interesting to see how many opt out

hey guys, just got a call from Woodfield Lexus and they are doing the recall fix for the IS-F. She said accelerator pedal modification, new floormats and a software update.

that sucks. i'll deny everything except the new floor mats. i don't like the new pedal shape/design.

After looking a little closer at the pics on CL it looks like the only difference in the gas pedal is they "45'd" the bottom corners. Doesn't look like they removed much.

I'm will Bulls23337...FREE floor mats are cool with me!
