IPOD interface kit?

Has anyone had the Lexus IPOD interface accessory installed? It is available if you build an ISF on the Lexus site but is not listed on the standard optional accessory list. My dealer has ordered the kit for me to be installed by the dealer (1-2 hours) total cost approx $346 when my silver ISF is delivered in one week (can't wait):) . With it you are able to control your IPOD from the steering wheel and song titles appear on Nav screen and it charges the IPOD. Dont know where it goes (dash, center consel, replace ashtray) but they said they have to take out the radio and glove box to install.

Ipod kit

I've used the kit and am having it installed on my IS-F this week. The IPod sits in the glovebox or center console. You can control all of the ipod functions with the steering wheel ie.playlists, artists, songs. It's pretty cool, in fact I didn't even own an IPod but went out an bought one just so I could use this kit.
My dealer told me usually you can only connect XM *or* ipod, but that they had some adapter accessories available to potentially do both.
Great! Is it a dock or just a plug to plug into the IPOD?
Anyone know if the iPhone's ipod can be controlled with this kit?

Tks.
Ipod used with itouch.. no problems.

I have the ipod accessory and sirius radio. I use my itouch with no problems, everything like songs and titles can be controlled with the radio buttons ans remote steering buttons. It was quite a project to get it all hooked up by Lexus, but they finally got it right...not cheap to have everything done!
Sounds good, but I was wondering if the iPhone's iPod is controllable with this kit. Pls. let me know either way if you're aware. Thanks.
The IPhone is controllable with the IPOD Interface. The interface IS not cheap, and because it's an aftermarket piece, it's not something the dealership can do much with. The Interface retails for $995 installed.

However, if you are interested in getting this, or anything else, pm me and I will give a discounted price.

What am I missing here? Why would you want an iphone interface when you have bluetooth in the car? I have an IPOD interface that runs my Itouch... That should be the same type of interface that would hook up to your Iphone.
Exactly what are you trying to accomplish?
The only problem with the Vaistech ipod interface, you cannot select songs individually. You are forced to put everything in playlists to play songs.

As for the Lexus Accessory Ipod interface kit, it's made by Alpine. It is a plug and play unit.
Can the iPod interface be used while the vehicle is moving? For some reason I remember someone telling me you get locked out from choosing songs through the head unit any time the vehicle is not stopped and in park.

Also wondering if the same applies to the vaistech SoundLinQ2 (SL2Vi) unit. Any help would be much appreciated.
Yes you can use it while the vehicle is in motion.
This setup works great!

I am Confused...which kit did you install, and how much did it cost?

I bought my ISF new with the ipod accessory hookup installed at the factory.
I then decided to have the Sirius radio module installed. The Lexus dealership service dept. quoted me a price of $599.00 installed. After getting into the project, I received a call that I would need the Vais SoundLinQ 2, Model SL2i, which is an audio interface controller with a built-in Apple ipod interface. I was also informed that the ipod wire that plugs into my itouch would have to be replaced with an aftermarket wire hookup. These parts were ordered and 5 days later my car was finally ready. When I went to pick up my car, I was informed that the total charge was over $1200.00. I quickly informed the service manager that the charges were rediculous and totally unacceptable. I reminded him that I was quoted $599.00. The manager stated that this was the first conversion of adding the Sirius radio, fitkit SRS and Ipod interface. The install also required the Vais as well as the aftermarket Ipod replacement wire for my itouch. Long story short, we agreed on the $599.00 plus Ipod wire and shop supplies charges totaling $706.19.
The manager did say that on this install they actually lost money, but would honor their quote ,sans the ipod wire. He also stated that this was a rather complex fitment and future installs will definitely have to be studied to insure an accurate quote.

You might find it interesting that I was later informed the list prices that should have been charged are below:

Sirius radio $ 199.00
Fitkit, SRS $ 100.00
Adapter wire $ 99.00
Vaisipod $ 299.00
Ipod interface $ 246.00

Labor $ 309.00

Total $1243.00 plus taxes

Be sure to get any quote in writing as insurance against any upcharging.
