Aux port in the console is just an audio only input. If you want a full functional IPOD adapter, you will need to access the backside of the headunit OR you can opt to go with a simple FM modulator. You are SOL otherwise.

can i buy an adapter that will plug into the aux port and give me stereo sound? i don't mind just the audio, and i don't mind not being able to use the ipod for video or controlling it's functions on the dvd/nav. i basically don't want to carry around CD's anymore, and my commute is short enough to put on one album before i leave and be happy.

so having said that, is there an adapter that will make me happy?

Actually you can just use a regular mini rca cable and will broadcast in stereo direct through the headphone jack of your ipod. And if you need to charge it, you can always use the dc plug next to the aux input to charge your ipod/iphone.
