iPod adapter for nav unit.

I got my Is F yesterday and was talking to the sales guy and asked him y Lexus hasn't jumped on the Ipod adapter for the nav unit like everyone else. He said that they do have it and that it can be navigated through the nav screen. So they installed it for me today.... and it doesn't work. I have a Ipod touch so the guy was thinking that he just needs to get me a software update on the thing they put in.... I tried my boyfriends regular Ipod, and it works, but under the DVD, not AUX and only plays 1 band, and wont let you change the artist. The display is also not on the nav screen, you have to use the track up/down button... Anyone have an IS that has the iPod adapter that actually works????

I know you can plug it into the AUX mode and just use the Ipod itself to pick the songs, but they are claiming that everything will show on the nav screen?

Thanks,

Ashley

Congratulations on getting your is-f. I'm in North Carolina and still waiting for them to reach the east coast. Did you buy yours from a CA dealership? I'm trying to track the sales progression because i'm desparately awaiting my is-f:)
No, I live in Colorado Springs, CO. I guess it came about 4 days sooner than they expected, so hopefully it will hurry up for you. The car is pretty amazing. I thought my 350 was sweet, but theres no comparison. It rides a little stiffer but thats to be expected. But it shifts 100 times better, and sounds awesome!
I love it, a lot of $$$$$, but worth it. :)
Central California now has IS-F too. Slowly moving up the State.
I have an adapter kit on order and will let you know how my ipod reacts. I have the touch also. I traded my 350 in and there is just no comparison.
Congrats!

I don't know of any factory adaptor for the Ipod, to enable you to use the nav screen for operation. I do know that we do have some guys that have had an after market unit installed and it seems to work. I will find out the details for you.

..ok here are the details for the Ipod unit that works with your Lexus head unit. It is made by Vais Technology, and costs about $240, and $125 for installation. The Ipod cable is run from the back of your head unit and fed into the glove box usually, or wherever you want it. You plug the ipod in, and then you control the music with the standard audio controls from the Nav screen. Hope that this helps

Dice makes a super part!! works with the nav and everything!! I had it in my IS 350...
I just had the lexus install the vaistech part in the car today and it works great with the NAV unit. I can adjust music from the screen and it displays the data while playing. Great investment in my mind.

Does it ALSO charge your I-phone while plugged in?
Does anyone know if there's a way to get Sat-Radio AND the I-phone display?
I believe the Vaistech SL2i-UP will integrate and charge an iPhone 3G and integrate Sat-Radio- you'll have to check out their docs for more info.

I have Sirius and the Vaistech unit and both display on the screen and can be controlled from the steering wheel. The IPod Vaistech unit is great and yes it does charge as well. The satellite display is quite abbreviated and its cumbersome to control from the steering wheel so I just end up using the knobs. Let me know if you want further info.

Do you or anyone know whether the I-phone works with it too and whether it charges? Did you install Vaistech yourself?
There are different Vaistech units with different capabilities, their website calls out the different capabilities. They do have units that charge the first gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G. They are different - even if you have a standard iPhone, I would go with one that supports the 3G since that is the USB charger type that Apple seems to be making the standard.

I use an IPod Touch but don't know about the phone. Dealer installed, not my kind of thing really...

Is this what the dealer is offering, or do they use a different brand?

Yes, but don't get the hard drive version, its not ready for prime time yet, IMHO.

Thanks David. The dealership shows a higher price, though. I'm guessing the installation is included with that price?
