I'm not talking about how many miles before you can run it hard, but have you seen the long term test on cars in Motor Trend and others where a car is faster after it has say, 10K- 20K miles?
I dunno how many miles but I heard from some car enthusiasts here in Canada they say a motor is usually fully broken in and will produce more power around 10000 or more km.
