Hey Guys

Yesterday Morning i was driving to work and all of a sudden a baby deer runs in the middle of the street and had no time to react. Their are 2 Light scratches on the bumper and the Drivers side parking sensor was knocked out. Im glad its minimal damage.

I took it by a Lexus Certified Shop (also does high end vehicles) and they gave me a estimate of $1,204.00 to replace the sensor and Refinish the front bumper. (They are also going to fill in the guide holes for the front plate that i hate) They tried to wetsand the scratches but the clear is apparently cracked. I was thinking of just leaving the scratches and replacing the sensor as the scratches can only be seen in direct sunlight. I dunno what to do as my car only has 500 Miles on it.


Does this seem reasonable?

I hear ya. But, IMO, the Lexus Certified Shop is charging you way too much. I have replaced the front bumper on my '08 (road debris) - total cost for replacement and refinish was $789.73. Had the bumper refinished on my wife's ES (she rubbed a curb) - total cost for refinishing was $461.88. The body shop did an excellent job, and you can't tell that any work was done on either vehicle. In addition, at my request, the shop also put two coats of clear on both bumpers, and yes, they did fill those license plate guide marks. Note, I have also had some custom paint work done on the rear bumper of my F, they also did an excellent job and charged my $620.81 to refinish and two tone the rear bumper. I have attached a photo of my rear bumper so you can gauge the quality of the work.

of the dealership told me he would not bother painting it but told him i like my car in perfect condition.The Price includes a Replacement park sensor (around $400.00). He told me if they could reuse the sensor would be $850.00-$900.00. This is the only shop i trust. Today i stopped by my local lexus dealer and the GM. The GM also mentioned that bumper covers are typically repainted during the CPO process on their cars so he said it was normal wear and tear.

Oh well atleast the guide holes will be gone.

*****UPDATE*****

I Just had my detailer who i use to come look at the damage. He Buffed out
90% of the scratches. You can only see the scratches in the sunlight and you look under light.

The Question is should is should i go ahead with the repaint or just repair the sensor now? I really want to get rid of those guide holes anyway so im thinking of repainting it.

I talked with the GM at Lexus Today and he told me that it won't affect resale if bumper covers are painted. It is a plastic part so he can't meter it.

It really comes down to your preference. If it were me and I had the money available I'd get it fixed right and not have to worry about it. If money is a little tight right now, maybe wait a bit till things are better, but either way you are the one that is going to have to live with it.

Im going ahead and am schedule Friday to do the Repair. I should have the car back either Next Monday or Tuesday.
