Help with DVD hack

Hello All,

I hope you had a wonderful Valentines day! Anyhoo, I did the DVD hack this afternoon on the F. I got everything apart with no problems. I connected the white/grey and pink wires together and grounded the red wire. The DVD is playing while in motion but there is no sound. I spent another hour trying to find a loose wire and I'm stumped. Here's the kicker, my IPOD and FM radio plays fine but the DVD has no audio. WTH!?! Any assistance would be appreciated.

hmm, I need to go back through the diagram and see if there is something you missed. Mine works fine. Sure you got the plugs back in all the way...like nothing is partially engaged?

Fig,

Hello. I didn't disconnect the connectors from the unit. Before I reinstalled the unit I double checked the connectors and wires to make sure they were properly connected. I do not have a diagram so if you could tell me which wire has the audio for the DVD player that would be great. Otherwise, I will wait until this weekend and tinker around with it some more.

Thanks,

Rachael
So, to summarize the hack:

Pink of J50 cut
White of p1 Cut

join these two wires (spd in and spd out to Nav)

Parking brake is Red from J50 (same harness as the Pink wire)
Ground this to the frame fo the stereo.

If you took the red from the other harness, p1, then this is the Volume plus line....which means you will never get any volume :)

so go back in and reconnect the red and pull it from the Pink harness.

oski8,

Please see the link below for the dvd hack. Taking the console apart is easy. Just take your time and everything will be fine. If I can do it I'm sure you can too!

There are some tricks, like little tabs on teh underside of the top vents and pulling the side trim pieces off the center console straight out towards the back of the car. I used to do car audio so I have take plenty of cars apart. this is pretty easy compared to most, the grill peice was a little tricky to get lined up again, just never felt quite right. The trickiest part was probably keeping the HU from scratching everything, so bring a blanky.

AWESOME! Thank you! ;) My "Favorites" Folder is getting bigger by the day!!

Also, for those who have the Nav & DVD...the hack will allow the DVD to play while "driving" as noted...but in case you are NOT watching it, and have the NAV screen on, will the graphics actually be "moving" as you drive with the NAV screen on? Thanks ;)

Not Sure I understand. The Nav works as it did before. One option is to add a switch to eliminate the spd sensor input to the nav also. But this is temporary apparently...so for things like entering a destination while driving/

Fig,

Hello. I double checked my work this morning and my connections are correct. The pink and white wires are connected and the red wire from the J50 is grounded to the case. There is no audio for the DVD player. So, I went back and connected the wires back to factory specs and still no dice. The service manual says that the DVD audio cable connects to the S1 connector. However, there is no picture of the S1 connector on the back of the unit. Do you know which connector is S1? Thanks in advance.

Rachael
not sure, but I will look when I can to see if I can make any sense of it.
