help with decision....

5937 Views 22 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  F'n around
so i went to show my folks the isf tonight...
and upon arriving the showroom, my dad spotted the LS and said...
if you get the LS instead of the ISF, he'd paid for the price difference...

which also means, he 'doesn't approve of' the isf...

now i know it's my money and i should buy the car that'll make me happy

but happiness is not measured only during my daily commute
happiness in life also includes a non-disgruntled dad

and the LS is a very very nice car... just maybe not what i imagined for myself... now...

it's just very hard taking car advice from someone who would say the mb s class is the only worthwhile mb out there (without having driven any of the current mb cars)... and that the LS is a better car for me because my clients would prefer riding in the LS... (ok, a little bit about myself, i'm a third year attorney who just left the government sector and am starting out in the private sector... while i agree that the ride is suprior in the LS back seat... i don't mind having that car 5 years down the road...)

torn...

If it's your hard earned money, and hard work, reward yourself. :) As for the LS, it's an amazing car, but it's not fun to drive unfortunately. Get the F, you'll thank us later!
To be blunt here, my opinion of course but LS is more of a Professional car where the F is a solely a independent ride saying I'm out on the open for intensity..
Pure Muscle or Pure Luxury..Hm..Decisions, Decisions..
Tough Decision, whatever you decide I hope it works out..
get a GS! a little roomier, more luxurious than an ISF, but still sporty enough to have fun driving it.

go take a GS 450h or 460 for a test drive.
If you can wait till next summer, then go and get the new GS-F when it arrives in late 2009 :D If you didint' see it the pics are in the Sema show although the car wont look "exactly" like that one, you'll at least get :::

1) To be one of the first to buy and have a GS-F
2) Big enough for you your family and some clients, you can have a gorgeous
car to go to those power meeting or power lunches!!!
3) Your dad wont tell you but if you got the GS-F he take it out while your sleeping for the night for a test while your sleeping, 500 + hp and he'll rekindle those 60's moments

Wow! what a tough predicament to be in. I can imagine the your father has had a lot of influence on you through life and has helped facilitate getting you where you are today. That being the reason for him telling you what car you should own. A couple of facts you can use to your advantage IF the conversation comes up again. The V8 engine in the IS-F is a direct relative of the Lexus LS. The 8 speed transmission and rear end gearing are direct relatives out of the Lexus LS. The reliability, re-sale value and quality of materials are all on par with the LS. The IS-F's are all built in the Tahara plant in Japan, same place as the LS. Tell him it is just a small version of the LS, kind of a pre-cursor to the LS is you will. ;) After all, you don't want you clients to fall asleep in the back seat, do you? Just some food for thought that might help out. Good Luck!
Interesting pickle to be in. Like it was said before, over the top luxury (LS) or luxury and over the top performance (F) :) Like FChamp said, if you don't want your clients falling asleep in the back, get the F. Plus the sound and speed might have them coming back for more rides. Then you can get both the LS and F :)
here is another point to consider: how often do you plan on having clients in the car with you? I spend a considerable amount of money with lawyers and have never been in any of their cars. I'm not sure what type of law you practice, but it seems like client interaction these days is email/teleconference, etc....or meeting at a spot for lunch/golf,etc.

There's no GS-F coming next year... unfortunately!
Why exactly do you want to compromise on getting what you really want? Sounds like you need to make a list of the pros and cons for both cars, but if you a driving kind of person, then the decision is easy:cool:
what also makes the decision tougher is that the 74k LS is being offered at 60k.... while the isf with nv/ml is offered at 55k
honestly it's none of us to help you decide, we may tell you how the car is, but truly its mostly your decision, we may all have F's but you may not like it, but honestly if you are a sporty time person than go with the F, if your not into like semi/moderate sound exhausts all the time then go for the LS or the regular IS, its your preference good luck on your decsion.
well.... the decision has been made....
i think i got a pretty good deal by buying the isf for me and having my dad get the ls for himself at the same time...

total was 123xxx otd.... 59xxx otd for the isf (ml/nav+misc options) and 64xxx otd for the ls (ml/nav/comfort package/chrome wheels)

thanks for all the advice....
well done! neither of you will regret your purchases.

enjoy the new cars!!
Congrats on the purchases!! What color did you go with? Welcome to the F club :)
thanks y'all
i went with smokey granite...
black is a difficult color to maintain (although we went with black on the ls)
the blue is a hot color, but gathers too much attention...
i don't race on streets, but i'm sure plenty of us drive fast
so... i'd much rather be driving fast on the street next to a blue sti and have the sti get pulled over than me...

now to learn all the bells and whistles on the isf...

any functions/gadgets on the car that y'all found very interesting?

The sport button :p

The side mirrors tilt when the car is put in reverse and the mirror selector switch is either to the left or right, not in the center. To get the F to stay in the middle display, switch the display to show the gears and put it in manual mode :)

Have fun and be safe, its a fun car
both 08s...

once i pass the first k i will be playing with the sport mode =)
break in is only 681 miles :) save the 319 for sport mode
