Headers and your dealership experience

So with a lot of us running aftermarket headers or soon to be (PPE group buy), what experiences have you had with the dealership and warranty issues? Was anyone bold enough to ask the dealer to install your headers?

Has anyone passed an emissions test with headers + stock exhaust? :)

Also, once the PPE headers are ready, I need a place in Detroit or Buffalo that can do a good install job since I doubt anyone in Toronto has experience with the car.

Thanks,

I have sikky headers. No loss of warranties. I passed emissions. Can't speak for ppe but sikky headers are good to go.
Excellent! Those were my two biggest fears. You have an aftermarket exhaust too. Did you have cats welded in??
I run no cats. And yes I have an aftermarket exhaust. Just curious why did you choose ppe over sikky?
I'm super tempted to order the Sikky headers...I see no reason why this would effect the emissions test in CA. I just saw a video with Sikky + JoeZ exhaust...awesome!

Is this normal or do our engines run exceptionally clean?

Getting in on the group buy was mostly the reason. I've seen PPE's work in the past and it was always quality stuff. It really is up in the air as to which header is the better product.
Can anyone recommend an installer close to the Buffalo, Detroit, or Toronto area?
In Maryland they plug into your ecu so as long as your good no CEL you'll pass unless you get someone who is a real jerk and wants you to hook up to the sniffer but that barely ever happens.
So guys, if you had headers , and the joeZ exhaust fitted, but had a cat fitted between the 2 sensors on each side, would u still need the O2 simulator? Or would I get a CEL light? I've heard the CEL light may even flash on due to increased gas flow..... ?
Thanks guys

^^^^I am running PPE headers with a Custom Dual Exhaust System. I am also running PPE Magnaflow cats right behind the headers and have no O2 simulator. The stock heaters & sensors are installed before and aft of the cats. I have had my the headers and cats installed since April 5. No CEL. See picts attached.

Lou,

Mate , thanks for the pics, and your speedy reply...
No doubt you give ur car a bit when your out and about ...
Im having a set of RHD headers made up atm... and just doing all the home work now...
What are the PPE ones like...? Could you feel the difference in power once all had settled down and ECU had adapted.?

Thanks again..

Just had the PPE's installed today. The install was uneventful..7hrs/$630 at a good shop with no ISF experience.

I haven't been to the drag strip yet but I feel a definite difference.

Have a K&N CAI and can feel a little low end lag with more power at 5500-redline compared to stock (Can probably launch at a higher RPM than non KN cars).
The headers more than compensate and bring the low end back. Plus it seems like the flat spot at 4500-5000 is gone. Definitely more pull.

Will dyno to se what the real gain is either before or after getting an exhaust.
I have nothing against Sikky, but these look much better in terms of craftsmanship and finish. Can't wait for dyno results!

You cant see the headers once they are installed so why do people care so much about whos looks the best?

To the op I had my joe z exhaust and intake done at my dealership. No warranty issues. was there last week and a guy was getting kn intake, joe exhaust and sikky headers all done there. I get all my work done by the dealer, I know they kno the car plus if they screw up i can get it fixed quickly. Plus loaner cars.

Your kidding right? Fit and finish are indicators of overall build and quality and can predict performance and longevity. The better the fit and finish and the engineering that produced that fit and finish the better the better the performance.

Do you know why S&S headers went out of business? It was because a bunch their headers cracked. Attached are pics of the inside merge in the collector of two headers. No. 1 is PPE, No. 2 is from the header I had on my G35. Which one would you rather have on your car? Which one would you say flowed better?

I would take the one that has the best performance, longevity and price. How many issues have sikky headers had so far? I know ppe just came out so i doubt there are many issue reported yet? Also who has the best performance numbers so far?
^^^^The Dynos that I've seen, run on the same type of DynoJet, show comparable gains. As far as quality goes, here's an old thread from Club Lexus:

I have called my usual dealer for them to install my PPE headers and he is ok doing it, he just told me he can not warranty the work as it is not an OEM part.
There is someone in France that has just had the Sikky headers installed at another dealer as well, he was not happy with the work though so he had it corrected at an other dealer.
