Hi,

I was wondering if any members have taken your cars to the drag strip. I have taken it quite a few times and my findings are as follows. I would say you definitely need to use the manual shifting to get anywhere in the 12 second range. You also need to kill your traction control. Another thing that you have to do is wind out the gears before shifting. My best runs have been 12.6 seconds in the 113 mph range. My silver IS-F is stock. Just to give you guys a quick comparison, my friend has a C63 benz and he got a 12.2 at 115 the same day. You have to take into consideration that the C63 has about 45 more horsepower and weighs pretty much the same as the IS-F. I plan on getting the intake and exhaust done for next season so lets see how i compare next time. =). Anyone have any numbers? I'm curious how I stack up with other IS-F's.

Welcome to the site!

Your run seems on par with most F owners. I personally haven't been out yet but I will be soon  Most owners are right where you are, and a few are a little lower (some magazines are higher, edmunds ran 13.2). You said you had it in manual with trac off, was it in sport as well? The best I've heard anyone running in their stock IS-F was 12.3. He removed his spare a few other things as well to make it a little lighter. Do you have your slips? How quick was your 1/8th?

Was on rear only drags but said that didn't help except for consistent launches. He was running the same times he ran with this stock wheels and tires with the exception of the consistent launches (so he said). That's the reason I didn't mention it to begin with

I would disagree on the comment about the soft compound tires not helping. My best 60 foot time was about 1.9 without loosing traction. If i had soft compound tires i could easily launch at a higher RPM without losing traction. I figure i could get a 60 foot somewhere in the 1.7 or so range which would translate to a good 3-4 tenths at the quarter mile. Two of my friends have bone stock C63's and we all went to the track the same day. The only difference was one of them had soft compound tires. His results were exactly as i outlined. He was getting consistantly better 60 foot times than my other friend which made the difference at the quarter.

Here is the link, specifically post #103 where it says he is unable to get below 1.9 with or without drags. Enjoy

I do have some track experience but only with windy circuit race tracks and I'm not an expert nor have any experience at drag circuits but could it be because he was running 18's on his drag radials that's not improving his 60 ft time? Would it make a difference if he had some 19 drag radials?

Hey thanks for the link Mike. Based on what i could see this appears to be the same guy that goes by the name Cole on dragtimes.com. If you look at some of his earlier runs on that site (pre drag radials) he was doing 12.5-12-6 so i would say the tires helped him out a bit. ;) http://www.dragtimes.com/Lexus-IS-F-Timeslip-16388.html

Ah, didn't see his earlier time slips, just looked at that page that I had bookmarked. Also, I just took his word that they didn't really help on the F. Good to know, when I get out there I'll let you know how I do

Just to clear some things up and congrats to Scotty on your excellent times (currently 3rd quickest to date at the strip that I know of). The drag tires that I use do NOT do anything for quarter mile runs except keep things consistent off the line. When the temps drop below 50, stock performance tires are just too inconsistent due to the cold and additional power coming from the cooler more dense air. The biggest factor in my times come from weather conditions more specifically Density Altitude. Check out my 2IS drag strip journal link in my sig for details and if you want I can add your times to the spreadsheet for comparison sake.

Hey thanks for the clarification caymandriver. I will be looking to add some performance to my car next season and maybe drop on some drag radials.
I have been to two tracks so far atco and englishtown raceway park.

By the way i would love to set something up for next season to rent out a track for a day. If i can get enough people to pitch in, it allows you to race your car all day and against whoever you like. It would be great if we can put together a day of isf vs c63 v m3. It will cost about $200 per person but the price will probably go down if more people are willing to do it. A friend of mine was part of one of these events last season at Atco raceway and said it was great. No pressure etc. I already know two guys with C63's that would be down for it.
Let me know who might be interested and i will look into setting something up for maybe springtime or something. :)

Sounds like fun! I've never been to Atco or Englishtown, but know they are fast tracks. Keep me posted. :)
