Front window kill switch

Hey everybody,

I'm hoping to make a kill switch for my front windows since they are tinted, and I am sick of getting ticketed for them.

Basically the idea is, make a little switch under the seat that will cut the power to the front windows, so if I get pulled over I can simply flip the switch... So when the police officer tells me to roll up my front windows, well... You get the picture :p

Police officers enjoy pulling me over and asking me to roll up to check for tints... Some people have suggested I can use my 5th amendment right, but I'd rather just give the illusion that I am complying instead.

Anybody have a creative way to do this? Price isn't an issue, but I'm just not sure what supplies I will need to do this.

It's absolutely ridiculous that I cannot tint my windows 35% to prevent the sun from scorching my leather seats.

Where are you from? Here in Cali, it is illegal to have tints on your front windows, but that law is hardly enforced, so most of us have tints. The cops at your neighborhood (safe as it sounds) must have nothing else to do...or they just love to pick on you.
i dont understand what killing the power to your windows is going to do. so then the cop will think your windows dont work?

if your getting pulled over for having 35% on your fronts then you must be doing something else wrong and they are picking on you, or they are just picking on you. i have solar gard 7% on everything but my windshield. this brand 7% is darker then the other brands 5% that they had. i've never gotten pulled over for tint in my is350 or the isf.

that being said, i have known people to get tint tickets, but nothing lighter then 20%.....most cops let 35% slide.

sorry for getting side tracked....i just dont know what your trying to accomplish. do u speed alot?
Tell them NO. Then ask why they stopped you? They need Probable Cause..

Provoking them will only make it worse on you in the end. If its such a problem, you should probably consider not having tint on the front to avoid the hassle and just treat your interior routinely and your leather won't suffer either. GL.

Very true... I run 15% tints all the way around except the windshield on my Obsidian IS-F and I haven't had any problems here in California. *crosses fingers* No but seriously... all the nice cars around here have tints on the front and they are pretty dark too and I haven't heard of anyone getting pulled over for the tints themselves. I got a speeding ticket a few months back, but the cop never said anything about the tints... He actually complimented the car. He was like, "Thats a very fast car...no need to show it on the streets.":D
I live in Illnois. The police here are strict about tint.

They just passed a bill which is effective in 2010 making second offenses of window tint violations minimum $100-500 fine and making it a misdemeanor.

Yes by being unable to roll the windows up I will make it difficult for them to determine whether my front windows are tinted. Probable cause can be a number of things and police can easily come up with probable cause. Going 1mph over the speed limit is probable cause.
you think the cops are going to believe a brand new lexus have window problems? they just gonna hassle your [email protected]@ more if you try to be smart with them
Well the tint law in IL was just passed in the house today, governor already conditionally said he'll sign it if they removed some crap from the bill and they did, just has to go through senator and governor and then 35% is allowed on front and backs in Illinois.

About damn time...

But maybe others will want to try to put in a kill switch. I think it would be a clever / smart ass way to hassle the cops , as they hassle you (unless you are being a blatant jagoff and limo tinting your ride where it is illegal). I wanted to do this because I use 35% , which is still clearly visible for officers... Meaning the only cops in IL that actually ticket you for 35% tint, that they can still see you through, are just douchebags.
I don't think you'll be driving with your front windows down all the time, and the cops aren't that stupid to pull you over just to ask you to roll up your windows to check for tints. What if they see you driving with your windows up and it's too late for you to roll your windows down, then what? Why bother with the hassle even if money is not the issue? I'd say lose the tints!

limo is the ONLY way i roll. i've had it on every vehicle i've had. anything less doesnt look good and 2 different shades, ie. lighter in the front looks so retarded you may as well not get tint at all.

but thats just me.

and still...no tint tickets in 7 years driving....murdered out and everything

Limo does look great, but I live in the burbs where crime rates are low and the police have nothing better to do. In most towns here you can drive around at any given time and expect to run into a tint/plate check on the road where they will basically direct you into a coned off area to ticket you for tints/no front plates.... Ridiculous. I was directed into one of these and told to roll my front windows up.... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is complete misuse of the law. I can see the issue if somebody did not roll down their windows before the officer approached them. If that happened, I completely understand the officer's justification for the ticket, but to simply do it for profit is ridiculous.... If the fronts are rolled down, they really should have no concern...

Do they honestly expect people are going to remove their tints after receiving a $75 ticket? They give you pre-stamped envelope to mail in your ticket, without appearing at court. The person that has the tint already understands the inherent risk of being ticketed, and most likely can afford the tickets, so what are they doing by charging $75? They are making money, and that is it. Small fines are clearly not enough incentive to stop window tint applications... Makes no sense and irritates me just thinking about it.

At least Illinois joined 45 other states and is not allowing 35% tint on front and rears...
