FIGS Ti exhaust dev thread.

8482 Views 25 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Fig
Just thought I would start a thread detailing my exhaust development. I finished the Tack welded sectional exhaust last week and will be building teh welding fixture next. Then the first mandrel bends will get donw and hopefully the first finished system in a few more weeks. So far two HKS Ti singles are used but this may change as people have demanded a quad setup. I will be integrating the tips into the bumper via carbon fiber trim bezel so that things to not look out of place. The system will be SUS304 TIG welded or full Ti if interested

Gimmie some feedback,
Fig

titanium? how big of piping are you going to be using?

3" to 2.5" tubing with a well designed transition. This is axle back only, shooting for a 30lb reduction.
hmmm....i might be a fan if it can become cat-back easily enough.
I suggest you keep the quad exhaust tips in my opinion. Other than that, 30lbs reduction seems very good. how much hp are you planning to get out of this axle back?
I realize you said you'd be integrating the tips with a CF trim bezel but I can't picture what it might look like...I do not like the round tips in the oblong opening...those 2 shapes don't go well together...I'd like quad tips to match the fa ctory look and would be interested if price point is reasonable. 30 lbs savings on an axle back seems really good. I give you kudos for doing this when there are at least 3 other systems on the market for this car...what do you think is going to differentiate yours from the Borla and others?

I will photo shop it in at some point.
differentiators:
-Ti for weight. Shooting for 20lbs.
-TIG welded axle back.
-options for full Ti tubing and thin wall stainless for further weight reduction.
- New bezel to make it look like it belongs there...instead of a hole in a trapazoid. I will also be integrating a air scoop into the bezel to draw more exhaust vacuum. Whether you believe it or not, this will add more power...on the street of course and not on the dyno. I should have G meter readings to substantiate.

If you have not taken out your spare tire, try it out ans see how the weight translates to more power. IMO, it is very noticeable...even when I add a passenger.

How much will this sell for? I have never been a fan of the quad exhaust. But if you can make it look sweet without a gaping hole you have your first buyer.
Pricing is still in the air. I jsut got the parts to build the flange interface. It will depend on how much work is in it at the end. Especially on the carbon trim side.
Make it look right and sound good ,Not too loud, and i'm all over it. weight savings is a bonus. I wish this car was as light as my Z06 ,That would help in the performance area !
Yeah, I still feel like it is hard to show people how fast the car is because as soon as you add one more person, it does not feel as fast... haha. I am hoping to have the first 304 peice completed next week then I can evaluate the sound etc and see if I should add a resonator. Fig
I think a full titanium exhaust is a great idea. Anything that can help put the ISF on a diet would be appreciated. 20-30 pounds lost with a titanium exhaust sounds fantastic. Just one request regarding this exhaust...aggressive sound under acceleration is good, but droning during cruising is bad...please keep this exhaust relatively quiet for cruising.
Hey Fig hows it coming? Update please
Still working on teh first stainless proto. I had to design the ball cup to mate to the OEM system and no working on the exhaust hanger to put on the Ti muffler. I had to build a jig from the steel proto and non waiting on my tube bender shop to get the CNC bends to me in stainless. They have been slammed with summer cage work, so I hope things will get back on track now that the season is winding down.

Looks good! I noticed a slightly bigger piping before the split going to the mufflers. Would this be equivalent to a real dual set up?
sounds great awesome work man!But for the love of god clean your car .

haha, it goes from snow to sun overnight here...nearly impossible to keep clean :)
By the time you get this done ill be ready to purchase my F. Can't wait for both keep up the good work. Anymore on how your going to cover up the rest of the hole? Thats a huge gap.
