Brake rotor and pad help for you

If it's time to replace front pads or rotors on your "F", I have a new batch of Hawk Ceramic pads and HPS pads in stock. I think I may have found a replacement solution from DBA (Disc Brakes Australia)

They do not have the IS F in their vehicle menu, but the good news is that you can get a rotor by size.

So I did some math: the front rotors are 14.2 inches, which is roughly 361 mm.

DBA has a nice slotted rotor which is 362 mm.

Coupled with Hawk ceramic pads and ATE superblue fluid (or Motul 600 RBF for racing application, but I think that one has silicon in it) this could be a very good replacement.

Notice I said slotted and not crossed drilled, from my research and a friend who had the Brembo GT cross drilled, they tend to crack.

If you really want to get serious, I would also call StopTech for a set of SS brake lines.


I'm currently doing this setup in my Honda Accord (DBA 4000 rotors, but they aren't that big as the Lexus IS F) so I will report back how this setup works.

Edit: If you decide to go this route, call DBA and find out if the thickness (I think it's 32mm) and offset will fit.

The lines and fluid are a no brainer to me.

So I went to Glendale Lexus with a one year old IS F 08 with brake squeal. They are changing the pads because of a brake bulletin. Are they just putting oem pads on or has Lexus ordered a new pad to solve the noise issue. I have nearly 9000 miles on the car. They are changing them under warranty. Thanks

I thought that didn't apply to the ISF's?

New to the site and IS-F ownership. Bought an '08 w/ 12,000 miles. Car was not tracked and was a garaged fun toy for previous owner for a couple of years. The brakes make noise at very low speeds only and not all the time. Is this normal?

Welcome to the site!

Depends on the sound really. Is it a grinding noise or is a squeek/squeal type noise? The grind would need a good brake inspection done. Squeek/squeal may just need to be bed in properly. The squeek is something that happens with this type of brake if they are not used hard enough. Either way a brake check at a reputable shop would probably be best to set you mind at ease.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum but I just had my ISF in for a brake noise the other day. They did replace the rear brake pads that was under a service bulletin. I am still having a brake noise from the front. I talked to the mechanic and he said Lexus is aware that there is an issue with the front brake pads but there is no fix yet. I was told that they would keep me posted when they come out with the updated pads.

I just did a rotor replacement with the Raybestos and Hawk HPS pads today. I will be posting the complete DIY and review on my blog shortly. All in all very happy after bed in I can hardly tell the difference. I also got 31K out of the stock brakes and I argue I could have gone a little longer, I was losing a little thermal capacity in the pads so I opted for the swap.

I would also say that the OE pads required rebed about every 5K miles meaning you had to clear some of the glazing that had accumulated (through less spirited driving.) the noise I felt was predictable and manageable. I guess we all drive differently.

Fig, I just replaced my front rotors for the first time at 55,000 miles. I replaced my stock pads with Ferodo pads at about 25,000 miles and replaced them again when I replaced the rotors.

I replaced the rotors and pads just to be sure that I had plenty of heat disapation when I went to TWS for an afternoon on the track. There was wear on the rotors, but if I had just been on the street I wouldn't have replaced them. I still had about 40% left on the stock pads when I replaced them at 25k miles, and I had about the same left on the Ferodos.

I have never had brake noise, but I make sure to bed the pads in when they are new (multiple runs up to 90 mph or so and then hard braking down to 30-40 mph).

The prices aren't bad for a dealer, 8-10K miles however is ridiculous and cannot be right...I can't wait to pick up one of these cars Just be glad they aren't two piece rotors...

Just got my employee pricing for the front brakes; on rotors $198 each but the pads were still $272. i realy would like to get a stoptech set up but it seems they are draging there feet on this one..

Canadian pricing retail for factory rotors is $189.00 each brake pads from hawk cost me $320.00 I think. All in all friggin cheap!

Brakes a hell of alot better than stock....but keep in mind that this stage kit is with braided lines. call injected performance if you want a good deal for it, should be under $700 for the package shipped. it wont be on there website as they are redoing it. also i had Lexus of Wayzata do the install under $500 labor. hope this helps some of you

brake dust is less than stock, of course there are different pad grade options. just let them know what your issues are and they will steer you in the right dirrection.

I've got some Hawk Ceramics that I'm selling. There was a group buy last year on Hawk pads. Most people went ceramic. I'm selling because I decided to stick with OEM.

Unfortunately Ceramics never seem to work for me. They always seem to burnish too much...need a lot of heat to get proper bed in and service.

The HPS have been great on my DD. It will be hard for me to tell the difference until I hit the track this season.
