Changed my Oil Today

I did my first oil change today on my F, my wife's ES and the truck. I've never put 10 quarts of oil in a car before:eek: Anyway, I had trouble driving the F up on my ramps, they kept sliding forward. When I put it in snow mode, it went right up. I'm reserving judgement on the oil filter, Right now, I don't like it, I'd rather have the canister type.

The first oil change on the F is free at the dealership.

I know that:eek: But it's something I enjoy doing:cool:

What type of filter is on the F?
It's a pleated cylindrical filter that fits into an alloy filter housing. It's not a complete can as oil filters have been since the 70s.

I believe it's the same cartridge that's used on the Tundra.
is there a reason why they used a cartridge type instead of a traditional filter?

less post consumer waste!! lol but 10 qts of oil makes up for it!!
I get to change mine out in a few days here too. Just the filter as I am running 25K/ 1yr oil. Should be fun. I will weigh in after.

I changed mine last week (or so). Went with 0-30W Amsoil (just under 10 qrts). Filter was purchased directly from Lexus dealer, along with the tool to remove the filter. I think that the filter + tool came out to around $25, and the case of oil (12 qrts) ran me around $125 shipped.

10 quarts!? must be a truck engine. :p
I haven't seen the underbelly of the F, but is the oil filter easy to reach?
^^^^It's mounted horizontally behind a trap door held on by four hex head phillips screws. Easier to reach than some other cars I've worked on.
Thanks Lou. I agree, working on your car is fun and theraputic.
