I am about to jump on a 2008 Lexus IS-F!

My first questions are:

1. is it possible to retrofit the $500 backup camera into the car ? is it a easy DIY ?? or does it require significant rewiring and harness building????

2. are there are problems/concerns between the 09 and 08 i should be aware of that may make the difference between one and the other?

3. lastly, any "watch outs" to look for when shopping?

the dealer just told me he had one for my color for $50k flat here in socal.

Can I do better?

Hey there.
I just bought my IS-F today, so I'll answer these from that bias. :)

I am about to jump on a 2008 Lexus IS-F!

My first questions are:

1. is it possible to retrofit the $500 backup camera into the car ? is it a easy DIY ?? or does it require significant rewiring and harness building????
- I have no idea. I'm assuming the car doesn't have Nav/ML? I'm not good at personally modding my stuff unless I'm very familiar with it and have experience.
2. are there are problems/concerns between the 09 and 08 i should be aware of that may make the difference between one and the other?
- cosmetic changes on the interior from what i remember reading. I got an 08, I deemed them not worth the premium for the same thing.

3. lastly, any "watch outs" to look for when shopping?

the dealer just told me he had one for my color for $50k flat here in socal.

Can I do better?
Sounds like a decent price. If that's what they quoted you, there is still probably some more room for negotiating then. Depends how aggressive you want to be and how much you want the car. :)
It's nearly midnight, and I think I'm going to go take it for a spin ...

Sleep on it. I did, and bought it the next day.

does the car come with ML and navigation? i have never seen an ISF not equipped with nav and ML. if that's the case though, 50k is really not a good price.
yes it has ML and navigation.
Hey welcome to the site!, glad your interested in purchasing an IS-F

Not sure about the back up camera

Theres shouldn't be any problems with the 08-09, because there are only minor changes in the interior, theres another post in the forums that one of the moderators made. No Major changes especially engine wise.

Some watch outs are maybe the extra's that they want you to buy from the financial dept. the accessories might be over priced.

50k might be a lot for an 08, you can most likely do better i believe someone got it for 42k just last week, forgot where, but def try to talk down the price.

Good Luck with purchase
If it has The Navigation System, it already has the back-up camera.

At this point in time $50K is not bad for an '08 equipped with Nav and ML. With a little negotiating you might be able to do a little better. But, if it were me, and you like the car, and it is New (no miles). I would buy at $50K.

The differences between the '08 and '09 are isolated to the interior only, as explained here:

Welcome to the site! Your questions have already been answered but if you have any more, feel free to ask!

What other options does the F your looking at for 50k come with? I would grab it for 50k with the ML/NAV :D
you need to give more details. color? equipment? MSRP? from the sound of it, it sounds like you're trying to retrofit the park assist, which is the ultrasonic parking sensors.
Actually, the car he's probably getting is a Mark Levinson/Navigation only car...as they have been packaging them here in the Western Region. Park Assist, H/L Washers and Radar Cruise are all special order options here in CA.
50k with ML and NAV is not bad, if it is truely brand new. it should come with backup camera already.
i got mine end of december for 51k + fees and tax and 0.9% financing without much negotiation. you should be able to do better than 50k if you are willing to spend some time negotiating. a friend of mine in phoenix was trying get one for 54k out of door, but the dealer declined. so 48-49k + tax and fees is likely the best most of us can get.
if the car has a lot of miles you should be able to get a lot more discount as someone mentioned.

good luck
Does Lexus really offer 0.9% on the IS-F right now?

Last I heard, that Lexus is does 7% APR on their financing. Are their APR's negotiable?

i was gonna buy their car at whatever apr they gave me and use penfed.com credit union and take their 3.99% refinance.

but if lexus can beat 3.99% then i'm all for it.

the car is brand new they said.. less than 30 miles. does that constitute as brand new (for a lexus)? i know bmw's are like 2-5 mi's on the odo when they roll off the truck. thats more "brand new" to me.
i believe the 0.9% expired 1/5/09, but since then lexus gave two thousand dollars more cash incentive in addition to what they were offering then. so 11k-12k below MSRP is easily obtainable. check edmunds.com and carsdirect.com for the latest offers.
