A Little Confused

I posted on another forum the information below, so if you are on that board you'll see it there, too. Some of what I posted in the thread on the other forum is a little different, but, for the most part, it's the same information. I'm posting on both in case some people aren't on both forums.

I just got back from a local Lexus dealer and I'm confused with the information the salesperson gave me. As many posters have said salespeople sometimes don't know as much as car enthusiasts do (unless the salespeople are into cars as much as we are). This can be true for a number of factors such as they have many different models to contend with and/or consumers who are interested in a particular model tend to research the hell out of the car. Whatever the case may be in this situation it left me confused and I immediately thought I'd come to the experts for clarification. Btw, the experts are members here.

The salesperson was a decent guy with a no pressure attitude. I felt like I was speaking with another customer rather than with a salesperson because of his attitude.

Here's what he told me that's got me sort of confused about the IS F -
  • The 2012 and 2013 model years are identical with no changes from '12 to '13.
  • There won't be any more '12s built
  • The 2013 models will probably hit the market in February or March of next year.
  • He wasn't aware of the replacement of the exterior white color.
  • He said black is the only interior color available and thought red wasn't a choice at all.
There may be other things that came up but this is the gist of it.

In any event, I'd like to see what you all have to say about the above.

Cheers!

He wants to sell whatever he has.......the 2013's should be around earlier than that.

Black is not the only interior color available, he doesn't know his business too well. There is white, black, red, black/red, black/orange.
The Lexus site clearly shows the different interior choices, but he had me thinking perhaps those were eliminated for 2013 since they only show the 2012. I agree 100% with you about selling whatever he had.

A lot of those guys are bullshit artists. I gotta share this story, this happened in 2003, me and my best friend were each looking to buy a Nissan 350Z, so we went to the dealership.

The Sales Manager came out and the stories started flying. The best of them was that he owned a Ford SVT Lightning and met a guy with an Acura NSX-T somewhere.

They swapped pink slips and took each other car's home.

In 2004, we both ended up with different cars. He bought a 2005 G35, and I bought a 2004 WRX STi.

Now back to the ISF, the key to getting the deal you want is waiting for the right car, the right time and not being desperate. I looked at a 2011 Pearl White ISF today with 10,000 miles. The salesman says the buyer brought the car back because it "wasn't the right car to take their grandchildren in":rolleyes::rolleyes: That was the biggest BS I've heard in a while.

They wanted 58,000, I told them to take a hike.

They came back with 55,000. I got up and left. I'm the type of buyer who can wait another 6 months......I already waited 5 years, so what's another 6 months.

You also have to be realistic with what you can afford, insurance, gas and maintenance.

In any case, the sales people will try all sorts of tricks:

1. They will call you and say there are other people looking at the car and that you better hurry up.

2. They will tell you your ideal monthly payment for the car you want is not realistic.

3. They will tell you it's "their market, not yours".

They will make up all sorts of bullshit.

So far the best day to buy a car in my life was 10/31/2009, boy oh boy, they were desperate. Heck, it might happen again.....I'm still shopping.

You make some excellent points. In fact, you sound a lot like me bro. I actually told my wife that same thing about waiting. I said, I've waited this long so I might as well wait to get exactly what I want. I will NOT settle...that's for damn sure.

Thanks for the props. My father was a salesman (not cars) for years, so he knows all the tricks in the book. He taught me everything I know.

When I bought my Honda on 10/31/2009, they wanted 16K for it. I told them 14K, and they refused.

I thanked them for their time, got up and left. I walked across the lot, I barely reached my car and the salesman came running (yes, literally running) and said the Manager said they will take 14K for it.

Not settling is the right move. Research out the prices, if you don't get the deal you want, get up and leave. If they really want to sell the car, they will call back. Also make sure you check the carfax, maintenance records and of course the car itself. Paint, glass, under the hood, interior, the body lines....

Test drive the car as well. (no brainer)

Right now it is a buyer's market, the economy sucks, the fuel is not cheap. Not many people can afford a Lexus, let alone an ISF. October will be here soon, the 2013's are not far away.....it will drive the prices down even more.

The only reason I want a 2011 or higher is because of the suspension and interior changes, otherwise, I would have bought an Ultrasonic blue 2010 by now.

Just called Fremont, CA about this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2012...8677022?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item19d50e759e

They are trying to meet #'s, he offered it at 58,000, if anyone wants a Nebula Gray with red interior, 2012.

I really have no clue as to what your confused about:confused::confused: Your Sales Person is uninformed. As I posted on the other forum, all the information you need and the information Lexus has officially posted on the 2013 ISF is here:

$53,998, not a dollar less...............

LOL..........it will be entertaining to see how long that one lasts on their lot.

FYI, you can get a 2012 for 56K all day long now.

North Los Angeles if anyone really wants a silver 2011.
Anyone in the Dallas, TX area?

Nice deal right here, someone should take this home. 2012, only 6000 miles.

Phoeniz, AZ seems to have the largest concentration of white 2012's, if anyone wants one, might be worth the flight/drive if you're out west in about 30 days...
