A/C Compressor in Auto Mode

3317 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Flipside909
Hi All,

If I have the climate control in full auto mode, the A/C compressor is shown as being "on". Is it really on all of the time even if air conditioning isn't needed, or is it just "enabled"? If I turn the compressor off manually, it goes out of auto mode.

Obviously I don't want the air compressor running if it isn't needed. With my previous car (an Acura), it would decide when to use the A/C compressor and would cycle it off and on even in hot weather as needed.

Thanks,

Jeff

It is my understanding that it will cycle as needed. It will work in cooler weather as well to keep the windows from fogging. The Off button is to force it off no matter what.

Cool, thanks for the info! That was what I was hoping.

This is it :) I sometimes feel the heat blowing even though the AC button is enabled, just cycles on and off
when this is happening, is the circulation mode on windshield defrost?

I believe that it depends on the outside temp. The owners manual talks about the rational.

(I know, I know, who the hell has the time to read that encyclopedia!! But I did check that part out. )
i had the same question; i just turn it off ive felt cold air comeing out when it was cold in the car so i alwaysturn it off
The reason why the A/C automatically comes on when you hit auto is to keep the air in the cabin dehumidified. Air Conditioner is not only used to cool the interior, it helps warm the cabin interior as well. It's perfectly fine to use the A/C even in heat mode. There's less chance of your windows fogging up in the cooler climates.
