8 Speed Transmission!

"In Drive mode, the IS-F transmission performs smoothly, and the torque converter allows for quick 0-60 acceleration in less than 4.9 seconds. The transmission also features a manual mode operated via a pair of paddles. Downshifts are accompanied by automated throttle blips to match engine RPM to vehicle speed."

This transmission is sweet...throttle blips are going to be fun

The sounds like a great transmission. Closet to a manual you could get that lexus offers. I think the 0-60's will be in the 4.6 range. Lets hope anyways. They just need to keep the weight down.
Regardless of the weight, the IS-F's gearing and power should hold it's own. :)
What kind of transmission does IS-F employ? Is it similar to LS600H, or some variant of double clutch gear box?
similar to the LS transmission
it is not a double clutch system.
If I was running Lexus I still would of offered a tight 6 speed manual box, they are going to lose buyers because of this. Already you can see this is the number one knock on blogs and forums regarding the IS-F, a performance sedan without a manual transmission.

Could you justify the cost of developing a manual transmission, when less then 10% of your car would be sold with the transmission in them? A manual transmission is great for a weekend drive, not so nice in traffic.

For a sports sedan like this I would think your going to sell more then 10% in a manual, and your going to get buyers that wouldn't buy a auto tran car. This isn't a 7 series BMW, people who buy this car buy it for the joy of driving and paddels take some of the joy out of driving for a lot of people who this car targets. That's my 2 cents and how I feel, and I am somoene this car targets. I'll test drive it since they claim 100ms shift times and that is hella fast but I would probably still buy a manual if they offered it.
What the pros & cons this transmission compare with double clutch system like DSG ?
I think 8 speed transmission more heavy ...
Do you have data about the tranny weight ?
Thanks
