Well, only 2500 KM's and I've gotten a chipped wheel. I sent in this picture since I don't have a Lexus dealer in my town.

http://www3.telus.net/public/a7a22065/is/wheelchip.jpg

Lexus tells me that if it's a defect they'll cover it, but if it's rock damage they will not. They'll ship me a wheel, I send mine back and they bill me $3,000 if they determine it was rock damage.

What do you guys think? I haven't heard any bangs or have any reason to believe that I got a rock. Of the one gravel road I've driven on I didn't exceed 10 Km/hour.

Is that a Nieman Marcus Wheel? If so, I'm not sure that you can get them that much cheaper Champ. We were all shocked by the cost on those wheels here.

Nope, not a Nieman Marcus. I'm in British Columbia so that price was in $CAN. Even though our currency is strong, we still get the shaft!

I would ask a local Dealership if they have a wheel and tire guy they deal with that can fix it for about $100.00.....

Just my 2 cents.....

Whew, now I feel better about having bought the Wheel and Tire Warranty...It seemed expensive and I don't normally buy any kind of extended insurance but it only added a few more bucks (U$)to the monthly.

Just look for an alloy wheel repair company in your area./ My folks had 3 wheels on the M35 Infinity repaired and it was invisable.

Thanks Scott, I'm pretty sure that's what I'll do. Nobody does it here so it looks like I'll have an errand next time I head south.

Information for the record. I checked with a Lexus Dealership today and found out some interesting information.... The stock wheels for the ISF are not interchangeable from front to rear nor even side to side.... This means that if you have damage to the right front wheel, you must order a specific wheel to fit only the right front. On top of all this the price I was quoted for a front wheel from the dealership was $ 1630.30. for only one wheel.......WOW! Please watch those curbs!!!!

That is correct !! These wheels are VERY expensive !!! If your dealership offers the wheel and tire program, I would STRONGLY recommend getting it !!!

the wheel and tire does not cover cosmetic, only functional damage.
Check your local web for rim repair places, typicaly higher end dealerships have a guy on staff the does it while you wait and should not cost you more than 40 bucks.. in my honest opinion, leave it , shows character. plus if your luck is like mine rock ships are a way of life. Touch up paint helps:cool:

tf103chl,

Sorry about your wheel chip. For what it's worth, I recently had a guy here in L.A., CA repair my left rear wheel where I'd slightly scraped a curb in a couple places and I was blown away by how well he fixed it. You truly cannot see the damage anywhere on the wheel, no matter what light you're in or how closely you look. They even airbrushed another clearcoat over the color match at the end. Cost: $125.00.

I hope, for your sake, that you can find a local guy who does this near you. The $3k/wheel Lexus wants for these rims is absolute rape.

Hope this helps.

I'm hoping to have my car in Vancouver this fall so that I can get the repair done. If not, I'll send the wheel down over the winter.

Speaking of winter. That's going to be a long break from the F.

The reason being that they are a functional part of your brake cooling, sucking the heat away from the brakes. They must be unidirectional to accomplish this task, so no tire rotation at regular intervals either.

Do u have any idea what the paint code is or what the color is called. I'm having trouble finding color code. Checked dealer, BBS, corporate Lexus and BASF. Is this the same rim color as is350 rims.

Thanks

Sorry, I tried looking up the color code for you but can't find it. I can find it on all the vehicle colors but not the wheel color. I believe its a "gunmetal" color....

Lexus is raping us all with the replacement cost for wheels. You can get BBS RS-GT three piece forged for a grand each wheel that are better and lighter and stronger than the gunmetal samurai swords we roll on now. I'm waiting for the stock wheels to get beat up and rock chipped and curbed then I'm just going to get them replaced with a new tire package......I'm guessing another 30,000 miles!

Lexus is pricing the IS-F wheel based off of what it cost to have it made. The build quantity of IS-F factory wheels vs. aftermarket BBS RS-GT is HUGE. The IS-F wheel mold, front and rear wheel, was not inexpensive to make. If BBS was making as many IS-F factory wheels as they were aftermarket wheels like the RS-GT then the cost of the factory wheel would be similar to the cost of aftermarket wheel. In case everyone doesn't know, BBS IS making the factory IS-F wheel. Remember, the IS-F is a halo car. Not everyone can have one. Everything is special about it and comments like that are not helping the value of the car for any of the current IS-F owners. We put a set of RS-GT's on an IS-F because they offered more width and a better offset. They are not better or stronger. Check it out:

Assuming you guys mean what happened with the wheel chip...

So far it's still the same. I didn't get it sent away over the winter and I'm just getting ready to insure the car for the summer. With any luck I'll get it done in Vancouver this year.

Here's the a better look at the wheel - It's not terribly noticeable, otherwise I would be in more of a panic to get it done.

you can also buy some touch up paint to cover this. just do a search for wheel paint on this site. it is sold at pep boys and it is really a good match.

tf103chl
04-16-2009, 04:03 AM
I wonder if trying touch up paint would affect how well a wheel repair company could fix it for real. Since it is a small chip it might not be a bad idea to try and "fill" it first.

I do agree though, I love my Canadian wheels!

Yeah we have the polished sections on the "spokes" and the lip around the rim. The US rims are solid colour. I do believe that the US got these rims on the Neiman Marcus edition that was released at the launch of the F. Not positive though.

Just wanted to tell everyone how much I appreciate the good advice on this forum site. I've got 13k miles on my IS F, and today when I was cleaning the wheels I found three small chips in a rear wheel. I was totally bummed, I was thinking about trying to find touch-up paint, then I remembered this website that I haven't logged into for months. I got the good advice and info I needed. Thanks!!

It does not cover curb rash, only if it's bent or heavily damaged by potholes, nails, huge rocks or something that's on the road while you're driving.

When I was checking out the IS-F, I took one look at those wheels and said....this is trouble :D.

That's why when I did decide to get one, I purchased extra coverage --- which covers (among other things) paint chips & windshield chips.....but most importantly --- anything that happens to the wheels for 48 months. That includes curb rashes.

Basically, they told me that if the wheel is damaged or even scratched in any way, they'll replace it --- no questions asked. (I'm in Canada BTW)

Peace of mind.

Had too many curb rashes on my past cars to know that history likely will repeat itself.
