Any of you guys in Southern California interested in doing some testing with Borla exhaust?
I recently sent an email to them requesting a date for an exhaust kit. David Borla responded asking me to let them test it on my IS. Unfortunately I'm in Dallas so, I told him I'd ask if anyone would be interested. My only stipulation was that I got the first production kit.

I had a great telephone conversation with David Borla last night. Great guy with a ton of knowledge and a fantastic attitude about making his products perform to the consumers wants and needs. However I a not currently able to fit their timing requirements so they are still looking for a Develpment Partner to assist them!

They will need your IS F for about 10 working days. They will do what they can to assit your needs during the 10 days or so that they will have your new IS F.... If you are interested please contact Mr. David Borla at Borla Performance Industries, Oxnard, CA. or myself and I'll forward you his contact info....

I spoke with Dave Borla, and I'm driving my IS-F out to California this weekend to have them do an exhaust for me. They will Dyno it and I will give you all an update when it's done. I might even do a YouTube before and after video with sound.

TAndrews,

That is good news to hear.

Please get dyno before and after, and if possible have a sound meter handy to record sound level inside the car and out.

Thanks in advance.

I already have an appointment to leave my car with them next week. Depending on how it goes I'm sure they will be designing an exhaust system for the IS-F in the next few months.

I believe cat-back, but we havn't discussed specifics. Going there tomorrow, will post this weekend after I talk with him.

Spent some time yesterday with Dave Borla at Borla Performance Industries. We put my IS-F on a lift and talked about the design of the exhast. He is definitely going to be making it a FUNCTIONAL quad exhast. Those tips will no longer be for show. He understands that the stacked exhast is a trademark of the car, and the design will incorporate that.

we also talked about making 2 production versions of the exhaust. One will completly be a new exhaust system, removing the emissions control. The other will leave the emission control on and will just be replacing the muffler and pipes.

This is all just discussion right now. I've left my car with him for a couple of weeks so they can work on it. I'll keep everyone updated as i know more.

did you park by the EDD building on Ortega? If so your'e the first F I've seen on the street. My wife spotted a red one on State St. the same day. Did you buy it from DCH Oxnard? I got the silver one, second F sold from them. You were probably the first.

So I finally picked up my car from Borla Performance Industries. Let me just say they did a fantastic job, unfortunately due to cost and warranty issues associated with removing those 'Quad Exahuast Tips' they were unable to do anything cosmetic to the car.

That being said the sound is AWESOME!!!!!! I was worried that it might sound 'ricey', however they really captured the essence of a large 5litre V8. I had a 450mile drive back to Arizona today, so I really got a chance to put the car through it's paces. What you really notice is the sound at the lower rpms. Before the car was really quite until it hit that magic 4000rpm mark, now you have a deep sounding exhaust just when it's idling. What's great to is it's not obnoxious like you hear on some cars, it's enough to get noticed, however it's not over the top.

When I got back to Scottsdale first thing I did was take it to the carwash. I'm not kidding there must have been about 7 different guys come up to me to ask me about my car, and without even saying anything they all commented on how badass it sounds.

Dave and the guys did a great job. I wasn't able to speak with them on friday, so I havn't gotten any dyno reports yet. As soon as I get them, I'll post them. In terms of performance I can't say I can really feel it, however when you increase the HP by 20 on a 420HP car, I don't think it's that easy to tell.

So, if you really want to add a little touch to your IS-F, and give it even more of a muscle car type feel I would definitely recommend getting this exhaust. Don't know pricing or time line for when it will be available, I will also post that info when I get it.

Axleback, they completely removed catalytic converters, so I won't be taking it to get a smog check anytime soon:cool:

Did they remove both primary and secondary converters, or just the secondary ones.....Your exhaust must be catback did they use an X pipe?

Hey everyone Greg Weiss customer service manager for Borla Industries emailed me stating the exhaust will be released in about 30 days...I am anxious to see the final product...stay tuned

Here is the excerpt from the email:

"We are in the process of finishing up the system for the IS-F. It should be ready for release in 30 days. At that time we will have a price."

So, does someone have a Borla Exhaust System on their IS yet? From some of the later posts, it appears as though one person did and the rest of us are waiting for pricing / Borla to come to market with the system.

I'm guessing there are some folks on here who probably love the "quad pipes" but I wish Borla would make an additional version that just trimmed things down to two large pipes, which is what I'd rather put on. I think the quad pipes are a nice design attempt and being original but I haven't met anyone who likes them.

Elevatus i agree with you 100% on that one.

but as long as i know my quad pipes are for real i think there awesome.
i hope the borla system sounds Awesome it should it sounded Great on my Corvette... but not as good as my friends SLP Loudmouth system.
but if i had to drive home on a hang over with his exhaust system i would just shoot my self. so borla is a lil more tame for thouse times on driving home on a long road

Please when ever some one gets some information on this exhaust get on the board as fast as possible. and start talkin about it

According to Thouston he recieved an email from borla that pricing and specs should be out in 2-4 weeks. Also to expect a 5-7% increase in power.

Ok... I'm bringing this thread Back To Life. What were the results of the DYNO? I did a copy/paste from my post on Club Lexus concerning this today.

I'm actually considering the full catback Competition exhaust by Borla (12656), NOT the axle back... Along with JOEZ, ISS Forged, and the soon to be released Greddy Titanium exhaust. I am going to be FULLY bolted including ported/polished throttle body and intake manifold. I am also planning a 150, 175 or 200 shot of NOS. I wish we could find a DYNO somewhere. Powergains are my biggest concern, followed by sound and drone as a close second. Help me make a decision compared to the other exhausts. Any information/insight would be appreciated.

I recently installed the Borla exhaust on the F and it's great! I decided to try this out instead of another PTS JoeZ exhaust because I had been told by a few members that it didn't drone, it's a few lbs lighter than my previous exhaust setup and it was only $1037 shipped! Since I don't plan on running cats this time around, I needed to find an exhaust that didn't drone and was very happy to discover the Borla indeed did NOT. The SIKKY header and PTS JoeZ exhaust combination was just too uncomfortable to drive and the only way to get it comfortable was by adding cats. With the reports of cats failing I have decided against using them this time around, but may consider down the road having the exhaust modified to allow interchangability betwen cats and test pipes.

The exhaust installed easily on a lift, was leak free on the first start up, clearance looks good throughout, the power is on par with any other True Dual exhaust and it doesn't drone.

I am still making great power and even had my best run yet on the dyno at JE Import Performance. Below are two dynographs comparing my best run with the Borla to my best run in December 2010 and June 2010 (all non-cat). The comparison to my June 2010 run shows that I'm making more power throughout and compared to the Dec 2010 best run I appear to have only gained in the top end. The gains between PTS JoeZ exhaust and Borla are just about the same. I think this should be expected since they are both true-dual, utilize 2.5" piping, X-pipe and have a straight through design.

Did you get any CEL lights on? I had the full Borla and always flagged a CEL. I removed it and sold it as I didn't want to constantly see that light come up. Cleared it and it would come back in about a week.

There is no reason why the Borla exhaust would cause a CEL since it's no different than any other cat back exhaust that eliminates the secondary cats. Sounds like you had an exhaust leak around the O2 sensors or front flanges which may have flagged your CEL's.

Honestly I have no idea what the deal was. I pulled it down atleast 4 times and ensured a good flange seal. While running there were no exhaust leaks. I have the same original O2 sensors and it has never flagged again since removal of the Borla. I was advised of some 90 degree fittings to put in between the O2 sensors to fake the reading from them. Has anyone used them? I would like to gain something here but don't want the CEL.
Andy

Again, since the o2 sensor is in the exhaust manifold and doesn't get touched with an exhaust system change, I can't imagine what the issue can be. To get rid of a CEL, the best way now is with an o2 conditioner. It's all electronic and fools the system into thinking the exhaust gas measurements are OK. Did you use a scanner to read the CEL code? It would be interesting to know what the code is.

Lou
