: Powder Coated IS-F brake calipers!

I want to throw a question out to any current IS-F owner about Powder coated brake calipers. If there was an exchange program available to where you could order a pre-determined color powder coated set of IS-F brake calipers for your car, through a supporting vendor of this site as well as a Lexus dealer, would that be of interest to any of you? We can get to more details if there is a simple interest in the program.

And, if you were interested what colors would be most desirable?

thank you!

hmmm, that would be nice if there was something like that. i think most people would go for a bright color like red or yellow to make it pop more...

I'm actually considering doing mine in a few weeks. If it was an exchange program, that would be awesome and I'd be down to do it. I plan on doing mine either yellow (but deciding against with all the brake dust) and F blue

I remember seeing one picture of a silver IS-F with silver calipers posted in this forum. I don't remember who posted it. I might be wrong, but it looks good to have matching colors.

If we can come up with a couple of different colors that have the most interest.
I would committ to keeping a couple of sets in stock with enough interest. The idea would be to send calipers direct to your dealer or preffered installer on your schedule to eliminate down time. Let's keep talking.

I really like your idea of shipping them directly to the dealer or installer for a swap. I would definitely be for that option.

Would you offer a variety of pads? That would be a recommendation. You can offer different colors of calipers and different pads to go along with it (I'm sure they'll be price variation between the types and brands). It gives the consumer more options.

Absolutely, will offer pads once Hawk gathers all of their manufacturing costs and provides me with some pricing.

We have put together a program that I think will work if you are interested in having your calipers powder coated: We are willing to step up and provide this service for any F owner!

Powder coated IS-F caliper exchange program

Color choices: Red, Silver, Yellow and ISF blue.

Here’s what we’ll do:

Remove all working parts of the caliper and the seals. Then we will strip the calipers down to bare metal and prep for powder coating. The calipers will then be powder coated to your color choice and then re-assemble and re-install seals. The disassembly and re-assembly of the calipers themselves will be done in-house by our Lexus Master certified technician. Then the calipers will be sent to you or a Lexus dealer of your choice for installation.

Cost$ 599.00 for a set of 4 (2 front calipers & 2 rear calipers)

What you’ll do:

Contact Doug Greenup @ Lexus of Dayton and order your color choice. The order will be put in place. If the color you order is not in stock, then we will proceed to have a set powder coated for you. Once the color you order is in then we can ship them either to you or to your favorite Lexus dealer for installation.

Ideally, we would like to have your original calipers sent to us first. Then we would send out your new powder coated set as soon as we receive your take-off set. This will minimize down time for you significantly.

If you have any questions or would like to place and order, please PM or e-mail me.

Thanks!
Doug

Awesome Doug! Got a quick question for you though. Let's just say I purchase a set and have them shipped to a local dealer for install. I show up and have them installed the day after they arrive and my old ones sent back to you, does that work for you as well as opposed to sending them in before receiving the new ones? That way my car doesn't have to be out of service for a few days

Henry, we did 1 car back in Sept. as a project for the owner. We did some yellow calipers on a black car with black 20" wheels. I'll re-post those pictures so you can at least see what the yellow would like like.

BigMike,
wassupp. I'm glad you asked that question. There is the option to ship the calipers to you before you take yours off, however..the calipers cost $885.00 each and I would need to charge for them and then credit back once I got yours back in my hands. That is an option. Are you ready? :D

Hey Doug, 2 more questions...

- Will there be any logo put back on the calipers...will it say Brembo, Lexus, etc? I can't tell from those pics u have of the black car what, if any, the wording is on the calipers....

- any eta on the hawk pads? Just curious....

I won't be ready to do this until spring so have some time...thx much.

Don't forget, overnite shipping is an option as well! Both to me and from me. We simply pushed the car to a neutral area of the dealership while the work was being done, it's not a big deal.

Mondo,
there was no logo on the yellow calipers. I would have to do a little research on logo availabilty. I'm not sure that I would simply put a vinyl logo back on the newly coated caliper. It probably wouldn't hold up under high heat and washing, etc. As of right now I am not adding any logos. I would want to make sure it was done right, much like the powder coat process I described. I think I read on another thread where a guy had a local sticker shop make up logos for his, to each his own!

No word yet on the Hawk pads. The backing plate was a new shape for them, so they are working on getting prints from Brembo, etc. R&D is in process. They should be ready by springtime would be my guess.

Thanks Mr. M!

Doug

Hey Doug, I know this thread is old and I hate to bring it back to the top but I have a question. Can y'all paint the calipers also or do you just offer powder coating?

There will come a time when people will say I wish my F was all OEM end to end since evryopne's got theirs "personalized". I just wish that we do not trick up the exteriors too much to the point that ISFs will have a certain image, like a Honda Civic or something.

That will be the day when I start seeing neon green or pink calipers, pretty soon chrome chain finish or even wood grain! ha ha! Lord all mighty, please help us preserve the value of the brand.

But then again, that's just me.

Hi Mike,
In true Lexus fashion, we believe that powder coating is the best option for the F calipers because of the potential for high heat. Painting is not something that we offer. Powder coating has proven to be more durable than paint in this instance.

Thanks,

Doug

Believe me, I was smack in the middle of all of that craziness of neon, glow in the dark shift knobs, etc. I will do my best to not let that happen in the "F" brotherhood! ;)
